Chapter 1295: Just Got Some Sand in My Eye
They'd just set off to find Lily's folks when she hung up the phone with them.
Her eyes were all puffy and red, and she was breathing heavy. Clearly, she'd just had a blowout with them.
How could they not argue?
They actually said they wanted to come to Golombia to find Niall and have him support them for the rest of their lives! At that moment, Lily just wanted to end it all, right there with them.
She couldn't wrap her head around why life was being so harsh. All she wanted was to live a good life and be with the one she loved. Why was that so hard?
"Lily?" Niall had been waiting in the hospital room for ages without seeing her, so he got up to look for her. Seeing her standing alone in the hallway, he felt a bit worried.
Hearing his voice, Lily quickly wiped away the tears that were about to spill. "Why'd you come out? I'll be right there."
Even though Niall didn't see her tears, he could tell from her red eyes. "You okay?"
"I'm fine, just got some dust in my eyes," Lily said with a forced smile, not wanting Niall to worry.
But the more she acted like this, the more Niall worried.
He sighed inwardly, walked up to Lily, and pulled her into his arms. "Don't worry, Evelyn will handle the mess with your parents."
"Okay." Lily wanted to say that no one could fix it, no one could help her.
But in the end, she didn't say it. She couldn't let Niall worry.
They went back to the hospital room. Lily sat by the bed, and Niall poured her a glass of water. "Here, drink up."
Lily was taken aback for a moment, then felt a bit embarrassed. "You're the one who's hurt, and yet you're pouring water for me."
"It's no biggie. I'm almost better now." Niall didn't think he had any problems anymore. If it weren't for the doc insisting he stay a few more days, he'd have been outta there already.
Lily drank the water, her mind all over the place.
Niall didn't know what she was thinking and was also super nervous at the moment.
His hand, tucked in his pocket and sweating, was tightly clutching the diamond ring he had secretly arranged to be delivered yesterday.
"Lily, have you ever thought about what kind of life you want in the future?" Niall asked, trying to change the subject.
Lily was quiet for a moment before answering, "I guess like any other woman—to have a loving husband, a couple of cute kids, and to live a simple yet happy life."
That was her dream.
Niall was touched, as this was also the life he had always dreamed of.
"Lily, if I'm willing to give you that kind of life, would you..." Niall stammered, his nerves getting the better of him, making it difficult to speak.
Yet, despite his nervousness, he found himself already on one knee, holding the ring up to Lily.
"You..." Lily was stunned too.
"Would you marry me?" After a while, Niall finally managed to say it.
Lily realized this was a proposal.
It wasn't grand, and there wasn't even a third person to witness it, but Lily didn't think Niall was joking.
She looked at Niall kneeling on one knee, saw the sincerity in his eyes, and even noticed his slight nervousness.
Lily was on the verge of saying yes, but just as the words formed on her lips, she remembered Aidan's words and her parents' threat.
She hesitated.
If she really married Niall, her parents would probably entangle her for the rest of her life.
"Lily, will you?" Niall grew more nervous as he waited for her answer.
He was confident Lily would say yes. Their relationship had always been strong, and they were already at a stage where marriage seemed the natural next step.
But her silence now made Niall lose confidence.
