Chapter 1109: Who Knows What Will Happen
Joshua was floored, then instantly pissed. "How dare she!"
"Joshua, I can stick around, but you gotta promise I'll be safe." On Joshua's turf, if Mary and her crew wanted to mess with her, it’d be a piece of cake.
This place was wild; folks could start blasting anytime. No matter how badass she was, she couldn't dodge bullets.
Joshua heard she was down to stay and didn't even think twice, grinning as he said, "Don't sweat it; as long as I'm here, nobody's gonna mess with you."
Evelyn strolled out of the room, and Brandon got called in. She had no clue what Joshua told him, but when Brandon came out, he looked at Evelyn differently.
"Let's roll; I'll show you to your room," Brandon said, eyeing Evelyn cautiously.
He led Evelyn to a room in the castle with a killer view. Opening the window, Evelyn could see the ocean outside.
Evelyn was pretty stoked about the room; it was way better than the dungeon she’d been stuck in before.
Brandon watched Evelyn by the window and said, "I don't know what you told Mr. Garcia, but if you're staying, it means he trusts you. Don't screw it up."
There weren't many people in the castle. Besides Joshua, it was just him and Mary, and now Evelyn.
He always felt like Evelyn wasn't the type to just roll over; she was probably scheming something.
Evelyn turned around and smirked at Brandon. "Weren't you always trying to get me to stay? Now that I agreed, you seem bummed about it."
Brandon pressed his lips together and stayed quiet.
Sure, he wanted Evelyn to stay, but only if she really wanted to.
But he knew Evelyn would never really want to stay.
"Whatever," Brandon said, then turned and left the room.
Evelyn's eyes turned icy as she looked at the closed door, her smile fading.
When Brandon got back to Joshua's room, Mary was already there. She had just found out Evelyn was staying in the castle and was fuming, "Joshua, how can you let Evelyn stay here? This place is full of secrets. What if she..."
Mary was livid, even more so because Evelyn was staying on the same floor as Joshua, a perk she didn't have.
Joshua's gaze turned icy. "Mary, know your place. I like Evelyn a lot. If you disrespect her again, don't blame me for being ruthless."
Mary was stunned. She'd been by Joshua's side for years, and this was the first time he’d talked to her like that. Her eyes welled up.
"Mr. Garcia, everything's set," Brandon said, breaking the awkward silence.
Joshua nodded and told him, "Get some people to watch over her. Make sure nothing happens to her."
"Mr. Garcia, this is our turf. There shouldn't be any issues," Brandon said with a nervous laugh. Now everyone knew Evelyn was Joshua's girl; who'd dare mess with her?
Joshua snorted, giving Mary a cold look. "I've been away for a while. Who knows what could happen?"
Brandon had no choice but to nod. "Alright, I'll get some people to protect Ms. Kyte."
Mary still sat there with her head down. She wasn't dumb; she knew Joshua was warning her.
She felt awful inside but didn't argue.
Mary did want to hurt Evelyn. Before, she just wanted to mess up Evelyn's face so Joshua would lose interest.
But now, she really wanted to kill her.
