Chapter 1205: Don't Talk to Your Mother Like That

Luckily, Nathaniel didn't manage to snatch Bella; instead, he got himself shot and had to run off with his tail between his legs.

When Evelyn rolled back home, Blake was there, trying to calm Bella down. He looked up and said, "Chill, we're all good."

"Did Nathaniel get away?" Evelyn asked, her eyes darting to Alex lounging in the living room.

Alex, being the cop he is, was all fired up to bust some heads over this mess.

He shot her a look and said, "I've got it covered. Nathaniel's now on the national hit list."

Whether he had a rap sheet or not, storming in with guns blazing was enough to get Nathaniel locked up.

But they weren't dumb; they knew the Flores family wasn't some pushover.

"I've got some dirt on him. You might wanna check this out," Evelyn said, pulling out a hefty stack of papers from her bag. She'd been digging up dirt for days.

Alex took the papers, flipping through them lazily at first, but soon his face turned dark.

"Son of a—!" Alex fumed. Each page was proof of Nathaniel's dirty deeds.

"I didn't ask for your help just 'cause of personal beef. Nathaniel's a real piece of work. Letting him run free is a slap in the face to his victims," Evelyn said. She wanted Nathaniel to stop messing with Bella, but she wasn't about to mix personal stuff with business.

If Nathaniel hadn't been a criminal, she'd have found another way to deal with him.

Alex nodded, getting where she was coming from. "Don't sweat it; I got this."

With that, Alex bounced from Kyte Manor. It was clear he was gonna handle this himself.

Evelyn trusted Alex. If Nathaniel showed his face, she was sure Alex would nab him.

"Dad, you guys okay?" Evelyn asked, eyeing the two of them with concern.

Blake started to speak but glanced at Bella beside him.

He was fine, but Bella looked like she'd seen a ghost, pale as a sheet.

"Ms. Calderon, what's got you so spooked? Think we can't protect you? Or you just don't wanna be here?" Evelyn's words were sharp, even a bit pissed.

She couldn't get why Bella was so freaked out.

"Evelyn!" Blake snapped, "Don't talk to your mother like that."

Evelyn clamped her mouth shut. To her, Bella wasn't really her mom, at least not someone she accepted yet.

"It's okay, Blake. I get Evelyn. I'm just a coward," Bella said, feeling guilty about the lives lost because of her.

She also felt like she was a burden to Evelyn and Blake and wasn't sure if she should even be there.

Evelyn sighed, trying to cool off. "Dad, get her to bed. A good night's sleep will help. I'll take care of the rest."

"Alright, thanks," Blake said, agreeing that Bella needed rest. He didn't stick around to chat more with Evelyn, trusting she'd handle things.

Bella stood up and looked at Evelyn. "Evelyn, I'm sorry for letting you down."

"Don't sweat it. You're the one my dad cares about. As long as he's not bummed, that's what counts," Evelyn said, feeling like her own opinion didn't really matter.
