Chapter 972: Then who do you like
Evelyn rubbed her forehead, looking frustrated. "I don't want to."
She hated being treated like a kid all the time.
Sure, kids have fewer worries, but what's the point of escaping reality? She wasn't going to magically turn into a child.
Even if Dermot spoiled her, others wouldn't, right?
"I just mean you can lean on me," Dermot said, sounding exasperated. He wished Evelyn would depend on him more. Why didn't she get it?
Evelyn stayed silent. They weren't a couple, so why should she rely on him?
At the restaurant, Wendy quietly ate her pasta. Greg had been silent since they got there, making her even more uneasy.
"Greg, don't be too sad. Even though Mr. Hamilton is gone, he's probably watching over you. If he saw you this sad, he'd feel bad too," Wendy said.
Greg stayed quiet, so Wendy added, "Besides, you still have me. I'll always be here for you."
Greg finally looked up at Wendy, their eyes meeting. A shiver ran down Wendy's spine.
She couldn't read any emotion in Greg's eyes.
"I've been meaning to tell you something," Greg said slowly.
"Let's eat first. We can talk later," Wendy said, sensing bad news and not wanting to hear it.
But Greg didn't stop. "Let's break up."
Wendy froze, tears welling up. "What did you say?"
"This is my fault. I got together with you to fulfill my grandpa's wish. He didn't want to see me alone, so when he set us up, I didn't refuse." Cliff's condition was serious then, so how could Greg say no?
So, Greg met Wendy and became her boyfriend to ease Cliff's mind.
But he never had feelings for Wendy.
Tears streamed down Wendy's face. She felt hatred, resentment, but mostly reluctance.
"If you started this lie, why not keep it up?" She didn't care why Greg was with her, as long as they stayed together.
Greg sighed, "I can't lie to myself."
No matter how good Wendy was to him, he couldn't love her.
Breaking up was better for both of them.
"Do you really not like me at all?" Wendy doubted herself. 'Am I that bad?' She thought Greg had some feelings for her.
Greg just said, "Sorry."
Wendy cried harder. "If you don't like me, who do you like? Evelyn?"
Greg frowned at the mention of Evelyn, looking annoyed. "This is between us. Don't drag others into it."
"Even now, you're thinking about her, aren't you?" Wendy cried, her eyes filled with hatred.
