Chapter 1075: There Won't Be Such a Possibility
Evelyn's words hit home, leaving Aidan speechless.
It'd be easier if the baby wasn't his. Simple.
But what if...
No, no "what if"!
"I don't even want to think about it. The baby isn't mine," Aidan said firmly, though it was unclear if he believed it or was just dodging the truth.
Evelyn felt a headache coming on. "Aidan, you can do an amniocentesis to find out if the baby is yours while it's still in the womb."
"Evelyn, what are you saying? Are you sure the baby is mine?" Aidan was upset. Why assume Phoebe's baby was his?
Evelyn sighed, trying to stay calm. "Aidan, we don't know yet, but you need to think about it. If the baby is yours, what will you do?"
She just wanted an honest answer.
"It doesn't matter if it's mine. I won't take responsibility," he said firmly.
He didn't think the baby was his, and even if it was, he wouldn't acknowledge it.
Evelyn frowned. "You wouldn't accept your own baby?"
"A baby that shouldn't exist? Why should I accept it?" Aidan snapped. Phoebe had schemed against him, and now she wanted to trap him with a baby?
Before Evelyn could respond, Aidan continued, "Tell Phoebe if the baby is mine, she needs to terminate the pregnancy. I won't acknowledge it even if it's born."
"Aidan, you can't..." Evelyn started, unsure how to continue.
"You think I'm too heartless?" Aidan asked.
Evelyn's silence said it all.
Aidan let out a bitter laugh. "Evelyn, put yourself in my shoes. If you were drunk and someone took advantage of you, and now you were pregnant, would you accept it?"
Evelyn seemed to understand Aidan a bit more.
Still, she insisted, "Aidan, you don't have anyone you like right now. Why not give Phoebe a chance? Maybe something good could come of it..."
"Not a chance!" Aidan interrupted. "Would you want to be with someone who schemed against you?"
Before Phoebe's scheme, he was indifferent towards her. Now, he felt outright disgust. Just hearing her name irritated him.
Evelyn had nothing more to say.
She looked at Niall beside her, signaling him to speak up.
Niall, catching her look, reluctantly put down his bowl. "Aidan, if you really don't like her, you need to resolve this baby issue quickly, or it'll cause endless trouble."
"Niall!" Evelyn shouted angrily. She wanted him to persuade Aidan to accept it.
Niall felt awkward. "Evelyn, I think Aidan is right. Anyone who has been schemed against wouldn't like that kind of woman."
"Not liking her is one thing, but what about the baby?" Evelyn was dissatisfied.
Niall added, "The baby isn't born yet, so everything can be resolved. But once the baby is born, who knows what Phoebe will do? If she uses the baby to threaten Aidan, wouldn't that give her an opportunity?" As a man, Niall understood Aidan.
He didn't think much of Phoebe either, finding her tactics unwise and unlikable.
