Chapter 27

"This is all a misunderstanding." Chad felt regretted. He didn't know Evelyn was Mr. Smith's apprentice.

"Forget it, Jose. It's nothing. After all, Mr. Smith hasn't produced for many years." Evelyn could understand why these people doubted the authenticity of the painting, so she wasn't angry.

Seeing that Evelyn still looked calm and breezy, Jose felt speechless. After a while, he sighed helplessly and said, "I've told you that you're not alone. Remember? You have us, and you can count on us sometimes."

"I know, Jose," Evelyn smiled. "If I'm in trouble again, I'll call you."

Evelyn didn't want to bother Jose because she knew the painting needed to be authenticated.

"So, is she Mr. Smith's last disciple?" someone asked in a low voice.

Evelyn smiled, nodded, and said to everyone, "Thank you for liking my master's paintings. I'll tell him about it. I'm sure he'll be pleased."

Everyone fell silent again. A man who knew some inside stories whispered, "I heard that Mr. Smith had secretly accepted a gifted disciple, planning to train her to be his successor. So that's her!"

They didn't expect Mr. Smith's last disciple to be a woman, let alone such a beautiful one.

For a while, the crowd discussed and looked at Evelyn with a little more admiration as they knew she wasn't merely a decorative presence.

Evelyn didn't care about others' comments. Standing between Aidan and Jose, she introduced, "Aidan, this is my friend Jose Lawrence, also Mr. Smith's student.

"Jose, this is Aidan."

The two men nodded slightly at each other as a greeting.

Jose didn't stay for too long. He left directly after chatting with Evelyn for a few words.

He was swamped. If he hadn't heard someone was auctioning off Mr. Smith's fake paintings, he wouldn't have rushed over.

Unexpectedly, just as Jose arrived, he saw people saying bad words toward Evelyn. He couldn't bear it and immediately stood up to support Evelyn, knowing there was no so-called fake painting.

Jose left, but the auction was still going on. After confirming that the painting was genuine, everyone bid desperately and wanted to get it.

In the end, however, Dermot got the painting. After all, no one in Moris City was richer than him.

"Why did you buy it?" Craig asked, his eyes wandering over Dermot.

"My grandpa's birthday is coming, and I was worrying about my gift for him. But now I'm not," Dermot smiled. Randy was a fan of Mr. Smith, so he'll definitely be delighted to have this painting as a gift.

While drinking, Craig thought about something else. "I'm getting interested in Evelyn."

"What?" Dermot thought he had just misheard.

"Don't you think she's interesting?"

Craig looked at Dermot and continued, "She's a famous doctor and also Mr. Smith's student. Maybe there's more. Who wouldn't be fascinated by such a woman?"

Dermot's face darkened all of a sudden. "What do you mean?"

"Nothing. If you're not interested in her, I'd like to get in touch with her. My family is pushing me to get married," Craig said seriously, and it didn't look like he was joking.

Dermot didn't speak, but his face was gloomy. His expression completely made Craig laugh. "Well, just kidding. She's not my type."

"What's her name? I'll have someone look it up," Craig said.

"Dr. Kyte," Dermot replied.

Craig was puzzled. "Her full name?"

Dermot shook his head. "Don't know yet."

"You don't know? She must be someone." Craig was even more interested. Dermot couldn't didn't mean he couldn't. After all, the way they did things was different.

"Tell me after you find out." Dermot was also curious about Evelyn's secrets.

Craig nodded, took a sip, and said slowly, "Don't worry. I'll definitely dig out everything about her."
