Chapter 389 Who Told You?

Evelyn asked this, and Dermot didn't know how to respond.

The Doyle Group hadn't been busy lately, and he didn't actually not come to see Evelyn because he was busy, but because Benjamin couldn't come.

That person had someone watching him, and if he came to find Evelyn, he would definitely be discovered. Dermot couldn't guarantee what he would do to Evelyn then.

Dermot had to be vigilant, so he didn't dare to come to Evelyn.

But he wasn't completely free either; he was busy consolidating the directors of the Doyle Group. As long as he brought them over to his side and found a way to oust Benjamin from the position of chairman, he wouldn't have much to worry about.

But it was not easy.

Those shareholders had always supported Benjamin. After all, many of them were brought up by Benjamin. They were already dissatisfied with his behavior as the CEO in recent years, so how could they possibly support him now?

Dermot didn't plan to let Evelyn know about these things. One, he didn't want her to worry, and two, he didn't want her to know about the existence of his father, afraid that she would have some resentment.

"Why aren't you talking?" Evelyn's smile faded a bit when she saw him remain silent.

Not speaking meant Dermot didn't know what to say, which meant he really wasn't busy.

Dermot snapped back to reality and sensed Evelyn's displeasure. He explained, "It's just some miscellaneous company matters, but they've been piling up recently, so it's been busy."

"Is that so? What specific miscellaneous matters? Tell me about them, maybe I can give you some ideas."

She was determined to question and understand, which made Dermot furrow his brows involuntarily.

Evelyn wasn't the kind of person who liked to get to the bottom of things, Dermot looked at her and slowly said, "Do you think I'm lying to you?"

Ding. The elevator arrived on the first floor, and the two of them stepped out, the atmosphere becoming particularly stifling.

Lying? Evelyn didn't know.

"Evey, I've been really busy lately, so please don't think too much, okay?" Helplessly, Dermot compromised in the end. It was originally his own fault.

Evelyn sighed and sat down on a nearby bench. "Then tell me, are you really not lying to me? About everything, from beginning to end."

Dermot paused, sensing Evelyn's seriousness and feeling somewhat puzzled. "Of course not, if I did, there must be a reason."

Like now, he lied to Evelyn about being busy, but in reality, he was protecting her safety, preventing Benjamin from targeting her.

Dermot felt that this reason should be acceptable, right?

Hearing him say that, Evelyn didn't know what to feel. It wasn't comfortable, to say the least.

With a sigh, she felt that she should ask clearly, otherwise, there would always be a heavy burden on her heart, always living in fear.

She turned her head and locked eyes with Dermot. "And what about Ava?"

As soon as the name Ava was mentioned, Evelyn clearly saw Dermot freeze, his eyes filled with disbelief, followed by anger.

"Who told you?" He frowned, his face looking unfamiliar to Evelyn.

"That's not important. What matters is, in your heart, am I really Evelyn, or am I her substitute?" She didn't beat around the bush, instead, she asked directly.

"Substitute?" Dermot furrowed his brows, his expression becoming more displeased. "Nonsense, you are you, what does she have to do with you?"

"Is it really irrelevant? Then how do you explain the reason why I look so much like her?" It couldn't just be a coincidence, could it? Dermot couldn't possibly just like this look of a woman?
