Chapter 989: As Long As You Like

Evelyn walked into the living room and saw a steaming bowl of porridge on the table, feeling a bit surprised.

She glanced at Dermot, still busy in the kitchen, and felt a warm glow inside. She walked over to him. "Dermot."

He turned around, smiling. "Awake? Feeling better?"

"Yeah, much better." Evelyn nodded, noticing he was making sandwiches.

For a moment, she didn't know what to say. "What time did you get up?"

"I don't remember, it was still dark," Dermot replied, smiling.

It was his first time making sandwiches, and though he wasn't an expert, his culinary skills saved the day.

Just as he was about to tell her to eat, Evelyn hugged him. "Dermot, why are you so good to me?"

Despite her reservations, she was moved by his kindness.

Feeling her warmth, Dermot held her gently. "You're wrong. I haven't been good to you at all. If I had, I wouldn't have let you suffer before."

He regretted not treating her well when she was his wife and later as his girlfriend.

"This little bit of kindness is just a small compensation," he thought.

"Let's move on from the past. It's not all on you," Evelyn said, pulling away. She realized their rushed marriage wasn't entirely his fault.

Dermot's eyes lit up. "Evelyn, does this mean you forgive me?"

"Yes," she nodded.

Dermot beamed. "Thank you."

"Let's have breakfast," Evelyn said shyly, leaving the kitchen.

Dermot followed, bringing the sandwiches to the table. "Try it and let me know how it tastes."

Evelyn took a bite, her eyes lighting up. "It's delicious; nothing to improve."

Dermot was pleased. "If you like it, I'll make it for you every morning."

Evelyn quickly waved her hand. "No, that's too much trouble."

"It's no trouble if you like it," he said, looking at her.

Evelyn was taken aback, coughing lightly. "Even the best food can't be eaten every day."

"True. Just let me know when you want it," Dermot nodded.

Evelyn agreed and didn't say more.
