Chapter 942: Being Invisible
"Are you really that confident?" Evelyn asked, eyeing him. They'd been lucky today, but that wouldn't always be the case.
Just then, the waiter brought their food. Dermot didn't answer right away; he served Evelyn first. "Let's eat and talk."
Evelyn nodded, realizing she was starving. It was dinner time, but they were just starting lunch.
"It's not about confidence. If everything's set up right, the outcome is up to fate," Dermot said with a smile.
Before Evelyn could respond, he added, "Take today, for example. It looked risky, but we had backup plans. It wasn't as dangerous as it seemed."
Evelyn had Craig ready to call the police, and Dermot had Todd on standby. Even without Evelyn's plan, they would've been fine.
"True, but things don't always go as planned," Evelyn said. What if Craig hadn't called Alex? Or if Randy had acted directly?
Dermot saw her worry and reassured her, "Don't worry; there won't be a next time."
He wouldn't give Randy another chance. The Doyle family was about to face a major setback, and Dermot planned to take them down.
Evelyn didn't say more. The Doyle family's issues weren't her concern. If not for Dermot, she wouldn't care if they fell apart.
After eating, Craig suggested shopping. Evelyn was about to decline, but Dermot agreed.
"Let's walk off the meal," Dermot said, not wanting to part with Evelyn just yet. Even though they lived nearby, it never felt like enough time together.
Craig felt the same. Even if Ruby didn't talk much, just being around her made him happy.
Evelyn and Ruby exchanged a knowing look. Evelyn finally said, "Alright, I was planning to shop with Ruby anyway."
So, they went shopping. Dermot, trying to make up for earlier, bought a lot for Evelyn and Ruby. Anything they liked, he bought without hesitation.
"Mr. Doyle, you don't have to buy me anything," Ruby said, knowing Dermot's attention was because of Evelyn.
But Dermot insisted. "You went through a lot today because of me. If you don't accept, I won't feel right."
Ruby wanted to refuse, but Evelyn pulled her aside. "Just take it. You did get dragged into this because of him."
Dermot owed compensation, and Evelyn agreed.
It was one thing for her to be involved, but Ruby got caught up too. Both Dermot and Evelyn felt guilty.
"If you don't want his gift, I'll buy you something," Craig offered, looking hopeful.
Ruby shook her head. "I'd rather take his gift. Thanks, Mr. Doyle."
Taking Dermot's gift didn't feel like a burden, but accepting Craig's would be different.
Craig was speechless.
He decided to follow along quietly, feeling invisible.
Who would've thought Craig would feel so frustrated because no one wanted his gifts?
