Chapter 615 A Nightmare
Evelyn's heart was heavy with foreboding. "Has there been any news of Dermot? He hasn't made an appearance at the Doyle Group in the past few days, has he?" she inquired.Niall's response was succinct. "No."A sense of dread coiled within Evelyn. She had a gut feeling that something terrible had befallen Dermot. Yet, if disaster had indeed struck, why would Todd and Grandpa Doyle keep her in the dark? Was it fear that she might inadvertently reveal the truth? She shook off her musings. There was no time for speculation. Evelyn ended the call with Niall and promptly booked a flight to Moris City. The late hour meant that the next available flight wouldn't be until the following morning. This delay did nothing to soothe her nerves. As dawn broke, Evelyn requested a day off from Blake. Despite feeling a twinge of guilt for taking leave so soon after starting her job, it wasn't a significant issue. She was in sales, and as luck would have it, she had just secured a new client. The journey to Moris City was a surreal experience for Evelyn. She slipped into a dream, a nightmare that clung to her even after she woke, like a second skin. The two-hour flight seemed to stretch into an eternity. Evelyn found herself gazing out of the plane window at the clouds, as if seeking some semblance of tranquility in their ethereal beauty.Upon landing, Evelyn headed straight for the Doyle Group but refrained from entering the building. If Dermot was indeed in trouble and Grandpa Doyle and Todd wished to keep her ignorant, they probably didn't want her there either. They might fear her presence would attract unwanted attention.Disguised with a hat, mask, and sunglasses, Evelyn stationed herself outside the Doyle Group. When she spotted Todd exiting the building, she began to tail him.Todd quickly noticed he was being followed. His expression darkened, and he purposefully strode into a nearby alley. If someone dared to tail him, they would face his wrath!Evelyn, however, was not deterred. She needed answers, and she knew they would only come from Todd himself. She followed him into the alley, ready for whatever he might throw at her.As Evelyn stepped into the alley, a sudden gust of wind rushed towards her. But such a tactic was futile against someone as prepared as Evelyn, especially since Todd was no match for her.Taken aback by her resilience, Todd's wary eyes hardened. "Who are you? What do you want?"Evelyn, driven by urgency, had no time for games. She removed her hat and mask, revealing her identity. "It's me.""Ms. Kyte?" Todd's disbelief was evident, as if he was grappling with a hallucination. "What happened to Dermot?" Evelyn demanded, not sparing any time for further explanations. Her words jolted Todd back to reality. He realized that Evelyn had rushed to Moris City out of concern for Dermot. After a moment of contemplation, he instructed her, "Ms. Kyte, put on your hat and mask and follow me. I'll explain everything once we get there."Evelyn complied without protest and followed Todd to his car. They soon arrived at a hospital. Evelyn, puzzled and fearing that Dermot might be hospitalized, followed Todd into a room. However, the person lying in the hospital bed was not Dermot, but Grandpa Doyle."Todd, what's this..." Grandpa Doyle began, his brows furrowing in confusion as he saw Todd enter with a strangely dressed companion.Evelyn removed her hat and mask, revealing her identity. "Grandpa, it's me.""Evelyn?" Grandpa Doyle's surprise mirrored Todd's earlier reaction. "What are you doing here?""No one would tell me what happened to Dermot, so I had to come and see for myself." She felt justified in her actions. Disguised as she was, no one would recognize her as Evelyn, and her presence wouldn't bring any trouble to Grandpa Doyle.
