Chapter 1081: He Stood Up
Aidan left, but Phoebe stayed put. She felt warmth on her hand and realized it was her own tears.
"Tears? Why cry?" she whispered, wiping them away and smiling again.
From now on, all she cared about was her baby.
She looked down, caressing her belly. "Baby, you're my rock now."
She couldn't wait for the baby to be born. Criticism didn't matter to her anymore.
At Joshua's villa, Dermot came home from work and found Brandon at his door. "Mr. Doyle, Mr. Garcia wants to see you."
Dermot frowned at Joshua's villa. "He calls, and I have to go? Who does he think he is?"
As Dermot started to leave, Brandon added, "Mr. Garcia said if you want him to accept treatment, you must come over."
Dermot paused, wondering why Joshua suddenly wanted to see him. Maybe Joshua had changed his mind about Leon's check-up. Would he really?
Dermot decided to take the chance. "Alright."
He followed Brandon back to Joshua's villa but saw no one in the living room. "Where's Joshua?"
He eyed Brandon warily, worried about a trap.
"Mr. Garcia is in the study," Brandon said, leading Dermot upstairs.
Despite his caution, Dermot followed. He needed to know what Joshua wanted.
If Joshua had bad intentions, it might still work out for Dermot.
In the study, Brandon opened the door. "Mr. Garcia, Mr. Doyle is here."
"Alright, you can go," Joshua, sitting in a wheelchair, waved Brandon away.
Brandon left, closing the door behind him.
Dermot looked at Joshua coldly. "What do you want?"
"Dermot, haven't you wondered why I won't let Leon check my injuries?" Joshua smiled, making it hard to read him.
Dermot scoffed, "I used to wonder, but now I think you're faking it."
Though he had no proof, he had a gut feeling.
He expected Joshua to deny it, but Joshua nodded. "You're right, I'm not injured."
Dermot was stunned.
As he processed this, Joshua stood up from the wheelchair and walked toward him, perfectly fine.
Dermot snapped out of it, his face darkening. "Joshua! You've been lying to Evelyn."
"So what? Can you prove it?" Joshua met his gaze without flinching.
Dermot lunged and grabbed Joshua. "I'll take you to the hospital myself. The truth will come out."
Joshua's provocation left Dermot no choice but to act.
He realized any doctor could expose Joshua's lie.
Joshua didn't resist as Dermot dragged him out of the study. A faint smile played on Joshua's lips, unnoticed by Dermot.
