Chapter 772 Cancel the Engagement?
Evelyn thought Joshua made sense. Such a big family like the Roberts family wouldn't let themselves fall into complete ruin.
"You don't need to worry too much. Mr. Kyte will handle it," Joshua said, knowing she was concerned and trying to comfort her.
Evelyn nodded and didn't say anything more. Fortunately, she didn't have to worry about these matters; otherwise, she would have a headache.
They didn't continue talking about the Roberts family. After a brief silence, Joshua casually asked, "Have you looked at Dermot's case file?"
"Yes," Evelyn nodded without much thought.
"How's the situation? Are you confident?" Joshua asked.
Upon hearing this, Evelyn put down her fork. After a moment of contemplation, she said, "Not really. After all, it's pressing on the nerves, which is quite dangerous."
"In that case, why did you agree to operate on Dermot? If it fails, the Doyle family might give you trouble." Joshua had learned about the ten major families in Golombia over the past few days and knew that the Doyle family was the leading one, so he was understandably concerned.
Evelyn smiled and said, "I don't care which family he's from. Since Dermot came to me and I agreed to operate on him, in my eyes, he's just a patient. I have no reason to refuse."
She became a doctor to heal and save people. If she refused Dermot, it would go against her principles.
"You're still the same as before." Joshua wasn't surprised by Evelyn's words and knew it was unlikely she would refuse.
At this moment, he couldn't discern Evelyn's feelings towards Dermot. Despite his curiosity, he didn't press further.
It was meaningless. For Joshua, it was better if Evelyn didn't like Dermot, as it increased his chances with her. But even if she did like Dermot, Joshua wouldn't give up.
He had heard from Aidan that Dermot had caused Evelyn significant harm. In such a situation, he couldn't let Evelyn get back together with Dermot.
After lunch, Evelyn had to continue working in the afternoon, so Joshua had to leave.
Wade was called back to the Allen family's residence.
Wade's parents were both in the living room. When saw Wade had arrived, they invited him to sit down.
"Why did you call me back?" Wade asked directly. He wasn't in the mood for small talk.
Wade's parents were annoyed by his attitude, but considering that there was a serious matter to discuss, they didn't hold it against him.
"We called you back for your engagement to Lucia," Amanda Robinson said.
When he heard Amanda's words, Wade wasn't surprised. He had suspected as much before coming, and now it was just being confirmed.
Upon seeing his silence, Amanda continued, "Although Lucia's methods are despicable, we thought that since she is the daughter of the head of the Kyte family and Dora is from the Roberts family, she was barely suitable for you."
"But now..." Amanda paused, looking at Wade's expression.
She continued as Wade didn't react, "The Roberts family has gone bankrupt, and Blake has publicly disowned Lucia. I think she is no longer suitable to marry into our Allen family."
These words were very realistic, but for these influential families, marriage was always about practicality.
"So, you mean to cancel the engagement?" Wade asked with a smirk.
"Yes, that's exactly what we mean," Amanda said. She had never liked Lucia from the start. Given Lucia's despicable methods, marrying her would undoubtedly bring trouble.
Now, with fewer concerns, it was natural to cancel the engagement as soon as possible. Amanda didn't want such a daughter-in-law.
