Chapter 963: Can We Start Over
Evelyn had no clue what Joshua was thinking, but when he spoke, she figured he had a rough time abroad and ended up on the wrong track.
She sighed, not doubting his story. "So, what's next? Any plans? Are you sticking with this?"
Joshua had already lost a lot of people. This couldn't keep going.
Plus, Evelyn didn't want him to continue down this path.
"I haven't decided yet," Joshua said with a helpless smile. He felt stuck.
"Joshua, since you're back, why not leave all that behind and start fresh?" They grew up together, and even though they weren't as close as she was with Aidan and the others, she didn't want him to keep making the same mistakes.
Things were different here than abroad; if Joshua kept this up, he'd end up in jail.
She didn't want that for him.
Evelyn's sincere look made Joshua's heart skip a beat; he wanted to agree right then.
But he stayed rational.
He looked at her and asked, "Evelyn, if I start fresh, would you be with me?"
"Joshua, that's a separate issue. I just don't want you repeating past mistakes!" She couldn't understand why he was so fixated on this.
She didn't get it, but Joshua did.
If Evelyn would be with him, he might consider giving up everything abroad. If not, he wouldn't.
As for her saying he was making mistakes, Joshua didn't see it that way.
He wasn't like Dermot, born into privilege. Everything he had, he fought for.
Joshua had a lot of people depending on him. Giving up wasn't easy.
"Evelyn, to me, it's all connected," Joshua said seriously.
Evelyn's face grew more serious, and she stayed silent.
She got what he meant but couldn't agree.
As they sat quietly, the waiter came in with their food.
Joshua quickly smiled. "Let's eat first; we can talk later."
Even though he didn't agree with Evelyn, he didn't want to ruin their relationship. He just hoped she wouldn't mind who he was.
Evelyn nodded, picked up her fork, and started eating without a word.
She didn't know how to convince Joshua, realizing she didn't have the power to, but she couldn't stand seeing him go down the wrong path.
Joshua smiled and said, "Don't worry, I've got people around for my safety, not for anything bad."
'Really?' Evelyn thought.
If he wasn't planning anything, how did Gerald die?
"Evelyn, don't you think Dermot used both of us?" Joshua suddenly said, catching her off guard.
Evelyn was confused, so Joshua continued, "Gerald was killed because Dermot asked me to do it. When you were in trouble, he told me to save you. In the end, both Randy Doyle and I took heavy losses, while Dermot lost nothing and came out on top."
Not only did Dermot win against Randy, but Joshua also felt he had won Evelyn's heart.
Of course, Joshua would never admit that.
