Chapter 527 Want to Laugh at Her

Upon hearing the commotion, Dermot turned his head to find Greg standing beside him, unintentionally furrowing his brow. "What's on your mind?"

Greg chuckled lightly, his gaze lingering on Evelyn as if muttering to himself, "These days, neither of us can match up to Evelyn. Aren't you going to give up?"

Dermot found the guy's words nonsensical and shot him a cold glance. "Why should it matter to me if you think you're not on par with her? Why bring this up to me?"

In his eyes, even if Evelyn became the lady of the Kyte family, she would still be the one he cared for. He couldn't care less about whether he was deemed worthy or not.

"You seem to be more determined than I am," Greg sighed with a hint of resignation in his voice. Liking Evelyn was something he felt like giving up at the moment.

Before Evelyn had returned to the Kyte family, Greg had considered himself her equal, but now...

With a helpless sigh, he knew he couldn't compete with the prestigious families like the first-class families or any of the top ten families of Columbia, nor could he match Dermot's steadfast affection for Evelyn.

Looking at the dazzling Evelyn nearby, Greg resigned himself to the fact that they could only remain friends.

His gaze shifted back to Dermot, and he said with respect. "Good luck. I hope you get what you wish for."

Despite not being Dermot's biggest fan, Greg had to admit that they seemed like a perfect match.

After uttering those words, Greg stood up and departed, leaving Dermot utterly bewildered.

'The guy must be out of his mind. Showing up out of the blue with that strange speech and leaving just as abruptly...' Dermot thought to himself.

While Dermot was still trying to make heads or tails of the encounter, at the center stage of the venue, Leap had already grabbed the microphone and stepped up.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, please quiet down," he began with a smile, addressing the crowd.

The Lock family was one of the top ten families, and given that they were hosting tonight's gala, everyone naturally showed respect by quieting down.

The venue fell silent, and Leap continued, "I want to thank everyone for joining us this evening, especially Evelyn, for her support of this event."

The statement surprised everyone, including Evelyn.

“Thank me? Why? I don't even know Leap.”

"Evelyn has just offered to perform a piece for us tonight, and I'm truly honored by her proposal," Leap said, still with a smile but already looking at Evelyn.

And as if on cue, the spotlight shifted onto Evelyn. All eyes in the room turned toward her.

Evelyn was speechless. When had she said she would perform? And had anyone even bothered to ask if she knew how to play?

But it all quickly made sense when she spotted Lucia's unmistakable grin from across the room. It was too evident to ignore.

'Planning on sabotaging me? Oh, Lucia, you really didn't take my words to heart, did you?' Evelyn thought.

"Evelyn, what's going on?" Blake had sidled up beside her. There was a tinge of concern in his voice.

He realized he'd never gotten around to hiring a piano teacher for her and feared she might not know how to play. In such a setting, an inability to play could be quite embarrassing. He was there to have her back. With him by her side, no one would dare to criticize her, even if she truly couldn't play.

Evelyn offered a serene smile but didn't divulge Lucia's petty schemes, "It's all right. I've got this under control."

Before Blake could say another word, Leap called out on the stage again, "Evelyn, please grace us with your talent."

The piano had been placed on the stage, and the crowd erupted into applause. At this point, refusing to play would seem like an affront to the Lock family.

Of course, Evelyn had little regard for the Lock family, but she wasn't about to let Lucia have the satisfaction of victory.

'She wants to see me make a fool of myself? Well, sorry to disappoint!'
