Chapter 1390 Extra: Aidan and Phoebe (65)
Dermot no longer knew what to say to Aidan. Aidan was well aware that Phoebe would mind these things, yet he didn't clarify everything today.
Dermot guessed Aidan was planning to keep hiding it until Phoebe found out again someday. The next time Phoebe discovered she was being deceived, she might not be as easy to appease as she was this time.
Dermot advised, "I think you should give her a heads-up in advance, at least let her be mentally prepared." If Aidan told her in advance, Phoebe would naturally see it as his strategy. Even if she felt uncomfortable, she wouldn't be too angry.
But if he didn't say anything in advance and kept hiding it, even if he managed to appease her today, when the truth came out, Phoebe would still feel deceived. By then, it would be much harder to make things right.
Aidan understood Dermot's reasoning perfectly well. It was just that, given the situation at the time, he had finally convinced Phoebe that everything he did was for her and Theodore. She may not accept it if he also told her he was getting engaged to another woman.
"I haven't figured out how to say it," Aidan said, showing rare signs of fatigue in front of Dermot. If he could, he really didn't want to deal with anything related to the Lowe family, but he had no choice.
Dermot didn't know what to do either but insisted on his previous advice, "Honesty is the best policy."
"Yeah, I'll think about it," Aidan replied.
Hearing this, Dermot didn't say anything more. After all, it wasn't his business. All he could do was offer some advice; ultimately, Aidan had to figure it out for himself. But seeing him like this, it seemed he couldn't figure it out.
Dermot just hoped there wouldn't be any regrets in the end.
Soon, the car arrived at the back door of Aidan's villa. After getting out, Aidan thanked him and then went inside through the back door, disappearing from Dermot's sight.
Dermot didn't linger either and quickly drove away. He didn't return to the villa where Evelyn was but went back to another house, just like before. Once home, he called Evelyn to inform her about Aidan's upcoming engagement, so she could be mentally prepared for the inevitable pain Phoebe would feel when she found out.
Evelyn was also very surprised to hear this. She had thought they only needed to brush off Sienna, but now there was an engagement.
Because of this, Evelyn didn't sleep well all night. She was very worried about the relationship between Aidan and Phoebe.
The next day, when Phoebe saw Evelyn, she was startled. "What happened to you? Didn't sleep well?"
"Yeah." Evelyn nodded, avoiding Phoebe's gaze.
"What's wrong? Is something going on?" Phoebe asked, puzzled. Aidan had explained everything, so Evelyn shouldn't have had a bad night's sleep.
Aidan hadn't told Phoebe proactively, which meant he had his concerns. In this situation, Evelyn didn't dare to speak out of turn. "It's nothing. Just a seriously ill patient at the hospital. I was thinking about the treatment plan all night."
"Aren't you working too hard? You have to accompany me and Theodore and also worry about work." Phoebe felt a bit guilty. Since she had come to stay with Evelyn, Evelyn had been almost constantly with her and Theodore.
Evelyn waved her hand. "It's fine. I actually wanted to take a break; I just couldn't find the opportunity before."
"Why don't you go to work at the hospital? I'll take good care of Theodore," Phoebe said, then added, "I won't go out, so there won't be any danger."
She knew Evelyn stayed mainly to protect her and Theodore from any harm the Lowe family might cause.
