Chapter 484 I Am the Victor
After speaking her mind, Dora was a bit scared, but she wouldn't show weakness in front of Blake.
"You're right, it's my own lack of ability." After a long pause, Blake finally spoke and then stood up, leaving the dining room.
Watching him walk away, Dora didn't feel satisfied; instead, she was still seething with resentment.
Why didn't he get angry? He should be raging, so why pretend to be so calm?
Lucia, coming back to her senses, looked at her mother, "Mom, what did you mean by that? Did Dad have a woman he liked before?"
"Just some lowly commoner. What use was your dad's affection? Would the rest of the Kyte family have agreed? Marrying me was the good fortune he accumulated over several lifetimes," Dora said bitterly, her words harsh.
The Kyte family, also among the top ten families, had made quite a stir with Blake's affair back in the day, and many were waiting to see the Kyte family's embarrassment.
If it weren't for her willingness to marry him, could Blake have ever dreamt of marrying into one of the top ten families?
Lucia knew her father had once loved another woman and couldn't help but feel a bit sour, understanding why her mother was always so angry.
"Mom, don't be angry. You are the victor now," Lucia consoled.
Dora nodded, "You're right. I am the victor."
Regardless of whether Evelyn would survive to return or not, Dora wasn't afraid
With that realization, her worries diminished.
Unaware of what Dora and Lucia were discussing, Blake sat in his office, his heart in agony over Dora's words.
Yes, it was his lack of ability back then that failed to protect the woman and daughter he loved. If not for that, his daughter wouldn't have suffered so much outside.
Despite giving her the best of everything these years, Blake always felt he owed her for not growing up under his care.
And her, he wondered if she was still alive after being taken away by those people all those years ago?
If she was alive, why hadn't she come to find him?
Did she hate him?
Blake clutched his head, in immense pain.
At the Colombian airport.
This was Evelyn's second time here; she was familiar with everything and might often come in the future.
This visit was mainly for Grandpa Lassie's surgery and also to probe the Kyte family's situation before deciding whether to take Ella to the Kyte family.
"Dr. Kyte, get in the car, let's go to the hospital to see my grandpa first," Lassie said, her heart a mix of emotions.
With joy and worry, she had no choice but to pray for a successful surgery to extend her grandfather's life.
Sitting in the Baker family's car, Evelyn accompanied Lassie to the hospital.
After carefully meeting Grandpa Doyle Baker, Evelyn greeted him with a smile, avoiding too many questions about his condition in front of the old man.
Stepping out of the ward, before Lassie could ask anything, the other members of the Baker family expressed "Lassie, is this the doctor you brought for grandpa? She looks even younger than you. Are you mistaken?"
They had expected Lassie to find some impressive doctor, not a young girl, which was laughable.
Lassie, annoyed, glared at them and said, 'Dr. Kyte is very capable; don't talk nonsense!"
"Capable? More than the doctors at this Colombian hospital?" They were skeptical.
