Chapter 1012: I Won't Let You Succeed
He spoke so sincerely that Evelyn's eyes welled up. But Dermot just laughed when he heard it.
If Joshua didn't want Evelyn to take care of him, he wouldn't have mentioned it. Now he's saying it because he knows she'll agree.
"Joshua, you don't need to say more. I'm willing to take care of you," Evelyn said. She wasn't heartless. Joshua had risked his life for her; taking care of him was the least she could do.
Dermot called him selfish, but Evelyn thought refusing would make her the selfish one.
Dermot expected Evelyn's response. He shot Joshua a cold look, wondering how he hadn't noticed Joshua's cunning before.
Dermot didn't say more, knowing he couldn't change anything.
"Evelyn, come have breakfast," Dermot called, ignoring Joshua.
Evelyn looked at Joshua. "Joshua, have you eaten?"
"I've already eaten; you go ahead," Joshua smiled. As long as he got what he wanted, the hardships didn't matter.
Joshua ignored Dermot. He was just a loser; being upset wouldn't change anything.
Dermot and Evelyn sat down for breakfast while Joshua and his assistant Brandon waited nearby. The atmosphere was awkward, but no one broke the silence.
Despite Dermot's reluctance, breakfast ended, and Evelyn still had to leave with Joshua.
As they were leaving, Dermot whispered to Joshua, "Don't think I can't see through your schemes. I won't let you succeed."
"I don't understand what you mean, Mr. Doyle," Joshua feigned ignorance, instructing Brandon to wheel him to catch up with Evelyn. Who cared about Dermot?
Watching the elevator doors close, Dermot felt a surge of frustration.
He kicked the wall, but it only hurt his foot.
He called Todd, "Has that doctor arrived yet? Hurry up, I need to see him today." Joshua looked fine, and Dermot doubted he needed a wheelchair for life.
Dermot added, "Find out where Joshua's villa is. I want to be his neighbor." He needed to keep an eye on him and wouldn't let Joshua succeed.
Downstairs, Joshua was unaware of Dermot's actions.
The car had already started toward the villa.
"Joshua, given your condition, I think it's best if you don't go to the company," Evelyn said. She didn't handle much of Kyte Group's operations but still had authority.
Joshua shook his head. "It's okay; I'll keep working. Staying busy helps."
"Evelyn, don't worry. Even though I asked you to take care of me, you don't have to be with me all the time. You can still go to work. Just seeing you often makes me feel better."
He spoke gently, and Evelyn felt sorry for him again. "But won't it be too exhausting for you to work in this condition?"
Joshua smiled. "It's alright. Physical exhaustion is manageable; it's the mental strain that's truly tiring."
