Chapter 1021: Are You Okay
Evelyn found out about Dermot and Margaret reconnecting online. She saw photos of them together, leaked by a journalist, and there were even rumors they might get engaged.
Evelyn put her phone away, not really buying it.
She knew Dermot well. If he said he wasn't into Margaret, he probably wasn't. Their past relationship was just for show, so no way they were getting back together now.
Still, the fact they met up made her a bit uneasy.
But since she was living in Joshua's villa now, what right did she have to care about who Dermot met? That'd be too selfish.
So she stopped thinking about it, buried herself in medical records, and tried to forget about it.
When Ruby showed up at the hospital, Evelyn was still on her shift. She was surprised to see her. "What are you doing here? Everything okay?"
"I'm fine. I came to see you," Ruby said, a bit annoyed. "How could you not tell me about something this big?"
If Craig hadn't called her out of the blue, she wouldn't have known anything happened to Evelyn.
"It's nothing serious. I'm fine," Evelyn said. She hadn't told Ruby because she didn't want her to worry.
Plus, there were things she couldn't fix herself, and telling Ruby would just make her worry for nothing.
Ruby sat down and sighed, "I've been busy with the Kite family, thinking if I could make it stronger, I could help you more instead of always relying on you."
"But after taking over the company, I realized how tough business is. The clients are all sharp and hard to deal with. I really admire Dermot. He managed the Doyle Group so well in Moris City, and now he's thriving in Golombia. Meanwhile, managing the small Kite family business is already wearing me out."
Her parents had basically handed over the Kite Group to her, but Ruby wasn't great at running it; she just worked hard.
This made her very tired. When she was busy, she’d forget to eat, let alone think of Evelyn.
Evelyn saw the exhaustion on her face and felt bad. "Why don't you do what I did and find someone reliable to manage it for you?"
Evelyn had Luke managing the Darkmoon Group and someone Blake chose overseeing the Kyte Group, so she didn't have to worry.
"Reliable people are hard to find, and even if I could, I couldn't afford them," Ruby said. Her small company wasn't like the Kyte Group, which had the resources to attract top talent.
After a brief complaint, Ruby perked up. "But I'll keep working hard. I believe I'll get the hang of it eventually."
Having come this far, she wasn't going to give up easily.
Then Ruby looked at Evelyn apologetically. "I'm just so busy I haven't been able to keep in touch. I didn't know you were in trouble and couldn't be there for you right away."
Besides Dermot and a few other prominent families, no one else knew about Evelyn's situation. If it weren't for her friendship with Evelyn, Ruby wouldn't have even heard about it.
"What's the big deal? We've been friends for so many years; don't I know what kind of person you are?" Evelyn knew Ruby cared about her, so she didn't want to make her worry.
