Chapter 1278 Henry's Plan
That night, Arianna and Jacob barely caught a wink. They were up all night, chatting and plotting out Emily's future.
Evelyn, of course, had no clue about any of this.
Next morning, when Evelyn rolled out of bed, Jacob and Arianna had already whipped up breakfast.
Seeing the grins on their faces, Evelyn knew they had come to some sort of agreement last night. She thought it was awesome.
"Evelyn, you sure you don't wanna stick around a bit longer?" Jacob asked, feeling a bit bummed they were leaving today. Who knew when they'd be back?
"Nah, Uncle Jacob, got a ton of stuff waiting for me back in Golombia," Evelyn replied. "But hey, if you and Aunt Arianna ever get some free time, come visit us in Golombia. If you can't find my place, just give me a ring, and I'll send someone to pick you up," she added.
Jacob's eyes got a bit misty. Sometimes he wished Evelyn was his own daughter. She was just so thoughtful.
"Yeah, Arianna and I will definitely visit when we can," Jacob said. He hadn't been sure about going to Evelyn's wedding in Golombia before, but now he was all in. He had to be there.
After breakfast, Evelyn and the crew got ready to hit the road.
Just as they were about to leave, Emily showed up in a hurry.
"Evelyn," she called out.
Evelyn stopped and watched Emily walk over. Dermot frowned, eyeing her suspiciously. He wasn't a fan of Emily.
Emily didn't care and walked straight up to Evelyn. "I'll pay back every penny I owe you."
Evelyn raised an eyebrow, genuinely surprised.
She had expected Emily to throw a fit after she asked her to write an IOU. She was even ready for a shouting match, but this was a total curveball.
"Glad to hear that," Evelyn smiled.
Even though Emily was older, Arianna had spoiled her rotten, making her act like a brat—reckless and selfish.
"I heard you're getting hitched?" Emily asked.
Evelyn nodded and glanced at Dermot beside her.
"Congrats," Emily said, though it sounded pretty fake.
She knew Dermot. She had even tried to flirt with him before but struck out.
Now, with Evelyn's rising status and her marriage to such a capable guy, they were just not in the same league anymore. Maybe they never were, but Emily just hadn't wanted to admit it.
Evelyn and Emily didn't have much to say to each other; there wasn't much to say anyway.
As Evelyn sat in the car leaving Tara Village, she looked at the familiar scenery outside the window, feeling all sorts of emotions. Who knew when she'd be back?
As the car started, she saw Jacob waving at her. She waved back and left.
This time, the car cruised slowly, and it was already one in the afternoon by the time they rolled into Moris City. They grabbed a quick bite and then headed back to their rooms to crash.
Surprisingly, Bruce still hadn't sorted out a separate room.
Evelyn didn't bother to say anything and decided to roll with it. They all knew what Henry was thinking; no need to spell it out and make things awkward.
So, Evelyn dozed off in Dermot's arms again. When she woke up, it was already daylight.
"Get up and eat," Dermot said with a smile as he saw her wake up.
Evelyn rubbed her temples and then sat up. "It's so late; you should've woken me up earlier."
"It's not late; we got here just in time for dinner," Dermot remarked.
