Halfway through the banquet, Ruby finally met Evelyn. "Ms. Kyte, I finally get to see you."
"Stop it. Are you here to tease me?" Evelyn rolled her eyes at Ruby, already feeling quite irritated tonight.
Ruby took her arm and said with a grin, "How it be teasing? This is a heartfelt blessing. From now on, my friend is the chairman of the Kyte Group. From now on, I can do whatever I want in Golombia."
"Do whatever you want? What are you planning?" Evelyn teased her back, knowing in her heart that Ruby didn't really care about these things.
Just like when she suggested the Kite family move to Golombia, promising to take care of them, but in reality, Ruby's family was very low-key and never asked Evelyn for any help.
Perhaps it was mutual; Evelyn was willing to protect them, and they didn't want to trouble her either.
The two sat on a sofa in the corner, watching the many guests at the venue. Ruby couldn't help but sigh, "I never thought there would be a day like this."
She had never expected that she would come to Golombia, let alone that Evelyn would take over the Kyte family.
"Yeah, I never thought so either." Evelyn nodded in agreement. The events of recent days had left her still reeling.
Sometimes, it wasn't her moving forward but everything pushing her forward.
Just like taking over the Kyte family, she didn't want it at all and only saw it as a burden.
But how many people envied her in Golombia?
Even Dermot was striving to become the heir of the Doyle family. If she said she didn't want to inherit the Kyte family, people would probably think she was joking.
Ruby sighed and quickly stopped thinking about it. "No matter what, we're all doing well, and that's the best thing."
"Yeah, how are your parents lately? Is everything going well with the company?" Evelyn asked.
Ruby nodded and smiled. "Everything's going well. Although we haven't deliberately publicized our relationship with you, there are many smart people in Golombia. So, thanks to you, our family business is actually doing better here than in Moris City."
Although Golombia wasn't considered much, she and her parents were very satisfied and felt things would only get better.
"Maybe it's not because of me; it's because you guys are doing well." Evelyn really hadn't given any special instructions, and those who cooperated with the Kite family might not all be because of her.
"No matter the reason, I have to thank you." If it weren't for Evelyn's suggestion to move their entire family to Golombia, she might still be suffering under Craig.
Evelyn patted her shoulder and said unhappily, "Why are we even talking about thanks? Do you not see me as a friend?"
"Of course not." Ruby shook her head. "I just feel that thanks is needed."
The two exchanged a smile and didn't continue the topic. Being too polite between them felt unnecessary.
"I just saw you leave with Dermot. What were you talking about?" She had intended to chat with Evelyn at that time but didn't get the chance and could only watch her leave with Dermot.
Evelyn nodded, feeling complicated when talking about Dermot. "He had amnesia before, and I performed surgery on him recently. He regained his memory."
Ruby had only recently been told about Dermot's amnesia by Evelyn, so she only had a general understanding of the situation.
"So, he came to you today to reconcile?" Ruby said with a touch of ironic amusement in her eyes. "He thinks too highly of himself. Why should he think he can do whatever he wants?"
Ruby's feelings were complicated. On one hand, she wanted Evelyn to be happy. On the other hand, she felt that if Evelyn got back together with Dermot so easily, it would be too much of a favor to him.
