Chapter 1138: The Scent of Love
Evelyn glanced over at Dermot, who was behind the wheel. "Aren't you supposed to be at the office?"
"Yeah, I should be." He'd just gotten back, and there was a mountain of stuff waiting for him at work, but he wanted to hang out with Evelyn more, so he was putting it off.
Evelyn could read his mind and said, "Dermot, we've got all the time in the world. No need to rush. You get what I'm saying?"
She didn't think it was smart for Dermot to keep ditching work just to see her.
"Got it, don't stress. I'll take care of the office stuff." Dermot nodded with a grin. "I'll drop you off first."
"Take me to the mall. I’m meeting up with Ruby," Evelyn said quickly.
Dermot nodded. "Sure thing."
As they headed to the mall, Dermot asked casually, "So, are Ruby and Alex a thing yet?"
"Not yet. If they were, Ruby would've told me." She'd been chatting with Ruby lately, but Ruby hadn't mentioned Alex, so Evelyn figured they weren't together yet.
Hearing this, Dermot seemed lost in thought, then let out a sigh of relief.
Evelyn rolled her eyes at him. "You don't still think Craig has a shot, do you?"
"As long as Ruby's single, he's got a chance." Even if it was slim, what mattered was what Craig thought.
Evelyn leaned against the window, not wanting to argue. "Think whatever you want. I still think he's got no shot. He should face reality."
"Besides, isn't Lydia great? Such a nice girl likes him, and he doesn't even appreciate it." Evelyn grumbled.
Dermot could only chuckle. "Evelyn, you’re being a bit of a hypocrite."
Aidan didn't like Phoebe, and Evelyn was cool with it. But when Craig didn't like Lydia, she thought he was ungrateful.
"Of course, can Craig compare to Aidan?" Evelyn felt a bit guilty but admitted it.
Craig wasn't her friend, she didn't even like him much because of Ruby.
So, she naturally sided with Aidan.
Dermot didn't mean to blame her, just smiled and said, "Yeah, you're right."
As they chatted, the car quickly pulled up to the mall entrance. Ruby had just hopped out of a taxi and hurried over to greet them, "Evelyn, Mr. Doyle."
"Mr. Doyle, I'm so happy for you two!" Ruby teased. Dermot had really gone all out to win Evelyn over this time.
But Ruby thought he deserved it, because he didn't appreciate Evelyn at first.
Dermot thanked her and didn't plan to go in with them. "You two go ahead and shop. It's all on me."
"Wow, Mr. Doyle is generous!" Ruby clapped. No wonder Dermot was loaded; who else would say that without cash to back it up?
As Dermot was about to leave, Evelyn reminded him, "Stay safe."
"Okay, call me when you're done shopping, and I'll come pick you up." Dermot said as he got into the car and quickly disappeared from Evelyn's sight.
Evelyn watched the car until it vanished around the corner. Ruby snapped her fingers in front of her eyes. "Hey, Dermot's gone."
Evelyn pulled her gaze back and glared at her. "What are you doing?"
"Newly in love, huh? You're glowing with romance." Ruby teased with a smile, suddenly feeling a bit of an urge to fall in love herself.
