Chapter 1115: Are You Worthy

Mary cleared her throat and got all serious, "Look, I'm giving you cash to bounce now; it's for your own good. Yeah, Joshua was a jerk, but here's some dough as a peace offering."

Evelyn put on her best sad face and asked softly, "How much are we talking? I ain't settling for chump change. Even if Joshua doesn't dig me, he never skimps on spending."

Mary's face turned red with anger, her teeth grinding.

"Two hundred grand!" Mary spat out.

Evelyn shot her a disdainful look, "Joshua dropped more than that on my clothes last week."

"So, what's your price?" Mary asked, knowing she had the cash after working for Joshua for so long.

"Two million," Evelyn said casually, like it was pocket change.

Mary's jaw dropped. "Two million? Are you serious?"

"If you're not down, then forget it. Joshua's still treating me fine, and I don't really wanna leave," Evelyn said, acting all indifferent as she got up to go.

Seeing her about to leave, Mary panicked. "Wait!"

"What now?" Evelyn stopped and turned back, secretly hoping Mary would cave.

Mary gritted her teeth and finally nodded. "Fine, but once you get the cash, you vanish from Joshua's life."

"No problem, but you gotta figure out how to get me off this island. Otherwise, I'm stuck," Evelyn said, thinking Mary should handle it since she knew the place well.

Mary frowned but realized it made sense.

If she didn't help, Evelyn wouldn't be able to leave at all.

Plus, if Mary didn't personally send Evelyn away, she wouldn't be able to relax.

"Alright. Once everything's set, I'll have someone let you know." With that, Mary turned and left, plotting how to send Evelyn away without Joshua finding out.

Suddenly, Mary had a dark thought: if she could send Evelyn away and then off her in some deserted spot, she could claim Evelyn ran off on her own. Problem solved, no money spent.

The more she thought about it, the more it seemed like a solid plan.

Evelyn watched her leave, clueless about Mary's dark thoughts. She had her own plans.

Since Mary would get her off the island, she needed Dermot to meet her in Danista so she could slip away quietly.

Looked like Evelyn needed to hit up that clothing store in Danista again. The salesperson there should have a line to Dermot.

That evening, Evelyn skipped dinner as usual but sat at the dining table waiting for Joshua to come back.

Half an hour later, the sound of a helicopter outside the castle signaled Joshua's return.

Lately, he'd been flying out every morning and coming back in the evening.

If it weren't for being stuck on the island, these past few days would've been the perfect chance to bail, with Joshua not around to keep tabs on her.

But Evelyn figured Mary would handle it.

"Didn't I tell you not to wait for me? If you're hungry, just eat," Joshua said, walking into the dining room and seeing Evelyn waiting. He smiled, feeling touched.

Evelyn smiled back. "It's cool; I'm not that hungry. I'd love to have dinner with you."

Joshua felt a pang of guilt. "Alright. You don't have many friends here; it must be pretty lonely."

Evelyn just smiled and stayed quiet.

"How about this, tomorrow morning you come with me to Danista. I'll have someone show you around," Joshua suggested, thinking it wasn't good for Evelyn to stay cooped up. She might start resenting it.
