Chapter 471 Thank You Anyway

Despite his words, Grandpa Doyle told her the truth. "To be honest, I don't know much either. It just so happened that I had also arrived in Moris City when that incident occurred, and I heard about it by chance."

"By chance?" Evelyn didn't believe in such coincidences.

"Let it be," Grandpa Doyle said, deciding not to hide anything anymore. "Actually, it was your grandfather. Back when he was working as a servant for the Kyte family, I met him, and he's the one who told me about it."

"Why would my grandfather tell you?" Evelyn didn't understand. It seemed more likely that her grandfather would keep it a secret rather than tell Grandpa Doyle.

"When your grandfather and I were in Colombia, we got along very well. Later, he brought you to Tara Village in Moris City to avoid drawing attention, so he couldn't use the power of the Kyte family. I've been helping him all those years," Grandpa Doyle explained.

Evelyn felt she was beginning to understand, but then another question struck her. "So, my marriage to Dermot..."

"Yes, that was your grandfather's way of repaying, or rather, his way of protecting you," Grandpa Doyle sighed. "Given the circumstances at that time, nobody knew when your father would come to take you back to the Kyte family. He had to secure your future."

"The Doyle family, although not as powerful as the Kyte family, still had some influence in Moris City. At least, they could keep you safe, which is why your grandfather made that decision."

Evelyn believed most of it. Even though he wasn't her biological grandfather, she knew the old man had always tried his best to be kind to her.

After a long silence, Evelyn regained her composure. "What about my mother? After she gave birth to me..."

"She seems to have died," Grandpa Doyle said, knowing it was harsh but still telling the truth.

"Seems?" Evelyn frowned. Couldn't he give a definite answer about alive or dead?

Grandpa Doyle gave a wry smile, helplessly saying,"Only your father was present at the time. He said she died, and no one else could find evidence. After all, your father did erect a tombstone for her later."

In his view, Evelyn's mother must have died. If she hadn't, her father wouldn't have done such a thing.

"I understand," Evelyn nodded. It seemed she had asked all she could for now, and she didn't know what else to inquire about.

Seeing her like this, Grandpa Doyle thought of his grandson and decided to say a bit more. "About your identity, Dermot doesn't know, at least he didn't when he fell for you. I was the one who told him later."

"He really didn't know?" Evelyn was skeptical.

"At least not when he started liking you. I was the one who told him later," Grandpa Doyle didn't want to lie and create any misunderstandings between them.

Unfortunately, Evelyn didn't see it that way. Perhaps because she now knew that Grandpa Doyle's past kindness was somewhat insincere, she was skeptical of his words.

"Thank you anyway for telling me all this," Evelyn said, not wanting to think about anything else at the moment.

Her mind was in turmoil. After all these years, she had always thought she was just a little girl from Tara Village. Who would have thought that nothing was that simple?

And her father, who knew of her existence, why hadn't he come to see her even once over the years?

Maybe... he had forgotten he had a daughter at all.
