Chapter 1355 Extra: Aidan and Phoebe (30)
After the birthday bash, things got kinda weird between Aidan and Phoebe. Not as icy as before, but definitely not all buddy-buddy either. It was like this awkward middle ground, and both of them knew what was up but didn't wanna talk about it.
Phoebe was stepping into the Brooks Group for the first time.
"Hey, I'm here to see Mr. Aidan Brooks," Phoebe said softly at the front desk, clutching a thermos with some homemade dinner for Aidan.
The receptionist didn't recognize her but thought she looked kinda familiar. Still, she wasn't about to let her through. "Do you have an appointment?"
"Uh, an appointment? No," Phoebe replied, shaking her head, clueless that she needed one to see Aidan.
The receptionist, thinking Phoebe was just another girl trying to get to Aidan, said, "Sorry, no appointment, no entry."
Even though the Brooks Group wasn't a big shot yet, it was getting there, and Aidan was already seen as a rising star. So, lots of women tried to see him every day. Aidan had made it clear that those women couldn't come up, so the receptionist had to be strict.
Phoebe didn't make a fuss. She just pulled out her phone to call Aidan, feeling a bit nervous about whether he'd pick up. Luckily, after a few rings, he did.
"What's up?" Aidan's voice was as cool as ever. Phoebe didn't mind; she was used to it.
With the receptionist eyeing her curiously, Phoebe said, "I'm downstairs at your office. Can you let me up?"
"You came to the office?" Aidan sounded surprised. Phoebe had never been to his office before; this was a first.
"Yeah, I need to talk to you about something," Phoebe said, blushing a bit.
Aidan couldn't see her blushing through the phone. Hearing she had something to discuss, he said, "Alright, I'll send someone down to get you."
After the call, the receptionist looked a bit worried. "What's your relationship with Mr. Brooks?"
She was scared she might've messed up and hoped Phoebe wouldn't hold it against her. If Phoebe badmouthed her to Aidan, she could lose her job.
"Not close. Don't worry," Phoebe said. The receptionist hadn't done anything wrong, and Phoebe wasn't the type to snitch.
Hearing this, the receptionist relaxed. Phoebe didn't seem like one of those women who'd cause trouble.
Soon, Aidan's assistant came down. He recognized Phoebe and walked straight to her. "Ms. Irvine, please follow me."
"Okay, thanks," Phoebe said, feeling a bit awkward.
"No problem at all," the assistant replied, secretly hoping Aidan would finally have a woman in his life so he wouldn't have to worry so much.
In the elevator, the assistant noticed the lunchbox Phoebe was carrying and was a bit surprised. "Are you bringing dinner for Mr. Brooks?"
"Yeah, I noticed he often skips dinner," Phoebe nodded. "Is he really that busy? Why doesn't he eat?"
"Mr. Brooks is just used to it. I remind him all the time, but he never listens," the assistant said, feeling helpless. He thought Aidan skipping dinner was a bad idea, but there wasn't much he could do.
He thought, 'Didn't expect Ms. Irvine to bring Mr. Brooks dinner. She’s never done this before. Maybe their relationship is moving forward?'
