Chapter 542 Wade's Offer

Dermot faced Todd silently. He wanted to find Evelyn. He wanted to say that he didn’t care about the company.

However, he was aware that if the Doyle Group was in trouble, his chances of ever being close to Evelyn would diminish. Eventually, he’d have no chance at all.

After a moment, he let out a sigh. "Have someone check on her immediately."

"Of course, I'll get on it," Todd said with a nod, relieved that his boss hadn't completely lost his composure.

While Dermot headed to the meeting, Todd sent some people to track Evelyn's whereabouts. Unbeknownst to them, she was already in a hospital bed.

Evelyn awoke at nightfall, staring at the hospital ceiling. It took her a while to recall the day's events.

A rueful smile crossed her lips. This had to be the worst hit she'd ever taken.

She mused that it was a lesson for herself. This place wasn't Moris City. She'd need to tread carefully from now on, and she might even have to hire a couple of bodyguards. Who knew what could happen next time?

She reached for her phone on the nightstand, only to find it had powered off due to a dead battery at some unknown point. As she worried about this inconvenience, the hospital room door swung open, and Kevin walked in.

"Evelyn, you're awake?" Kevin's voice carried a hint of joy, “Do you feel okay?”

Evelyn shook her head, offering him a grateful gaze. “Kevin, I owe you big time. If you hadn't shown up in time, I might not have made it.”

“Don't mention it. I just wish I'd gotten there sooner,” Kevin replied, regretting not being there earlier. Perhaps Evelyn wouldn’t have been so badly hurt if he had.

Seeing her in good spirits alleviated his concern somewhat. “You’ve only been in Columbia for a short while. Who’d have a motive to hurt you?”

At that, Evelyn chuckled faintly, “Who else but that mother-daughter duo?”

A shadow of darkness crossed Kevin’s features. With a cold snort, he said, “They won’t get away with this.”

“There’s no need, Kevin. I can handle this myself,” Evelyn refused his offer, insisting on dealing with her own family drama.

Besides, she had to consider Blake’s feelings. The two culprits were his wife and daughter, after all. Evelyn didn’t want to escalate the situation.

“But Evelyn...”

She shook her head at him and said resolutely, “Really, I’ve got this. I was just caught off-guard today. I didn’t expect them to act so soon... I almost gave them the upper hand.”

“Alright then, if you insist, I won’t push it,” Kevin gave in, but he had already marked those two for their actions.

“I can’t force you to let me avenge you, but you have to agree to one thing,” Kevin said after a moment. Evelyn looked up, puzzled.

Seeing her curious expression, Kevin continued, “I’ve arranged for someone to keep an eye on you and protect you from another incident like today's.”

Evelyn was momentarily speechless at his gesture.

Kevin was so considerate. She had just been contemplating such a measure, and here he was, steps ahead.

“If you don’t agree, I’ll just have to deal with that mother and daughter myself,” Kevin said, mistaking her silence for refusal.

Dealing with the Kytes was indeed tricky, but he was confident about handling just the two women, even if it meant falling out with the Kyte family afterward.

Evelyn shook her head, dumbfounded. “Kevin, I’m not disagreeing. The fact that you’re offering protection is more than I could ask for.”
