Chapter 1084: Everything Was His Calculation
An hour later, the emergency room light went off, and the doctor came out.
"The patient's stable, but his leg's worse," the doctor said seriously.
Evelyn felt a pang of sadness. "Any chance it'll get better?"
The doctor looked at her, unsure. "Hard to say. Right now, chances are slim, but you never know. Sometimes, miracles happen."
Evelyn didn't press further. She knew miracles were rare.
Joshua was moved to a regular ward and woke up soon after.
Seeing Evelyn, he smiled. "Hey Evelyn, sorry for worrying you."
"Joshua, I'm so sorry," Evelyn said, avoiding his eyes.
If it weren't for her, Joshua might've been fine. Dermot wouldn't have targeted him, and this wouldn't have happened.
Seeing her so upset, Joshua felt bad too. He wanted to pat her head but couldn't lift his arm due to the anesthesia.
Though his leg injury was fake, the fall did cause some minor injuries, just not as bad as they thought.
"Evelyn, it's not your fault. No need to apologize," Joshua said, shaking his head, trying to ease her guilt.
Joshua had his own worries. If Evelyn found out the truth, would she hate him?
He was scared but wanted Evelyn so much that he went through with his plan.
Luckily, they'd be leaving soon.
Evelyn stayed with Joshua all night. At dawn, she went back to the villa to get him some clean clothes.
When she arrived, she saw Dermot waiting at the door.
Evelyn felt conflicted. She trusted Dermot but couldn't forgive him for what he did to Joshua. Pushing someone down the stairs was inexcusable.
"Evelyn," Dermot saw the disappointment in her eyes, and it hurt.
He didn't care about Joshua's accusations. He only cared about Evelyn.
Evelyn stopped, waiting for him to speak.
"I didn't push Joshua. He fell on his own," Dermot said. "You know me. I wouldn't do that."
Evelyn was speechless.
"He had Brandon call me over. Do you know what he said in the study?" Dermot now understood Joshua's plan.
Joshua knew he couldn't get evidence and planned to frame him from the start.
"He told me it was all his plan, that he kidnapped you, and his injuries were fake. He even stood up in front of me."
"Do you think I could stay calm?" Dermot asked. "I just wanted to get him to a hospital for a full check-up. That would reveal everything."
"Golombia Hospital has staff he bribed. That's why his injuries seemed worse. I suggested a different hospital for the exam."
He finished and waited for Evelyn's response.
