Chapter 485 Mind Yourself
They didn't believe her, and Evelyn didn't care to convince them otherwise. Sometimes, it's best not to say too much; after all, there's always a chance for the unforeseen.
"Everything's okay on your end, right?"Evelyn, glancing at the chatting group, turned her attention to Lassie The surgery would require the consent of the entire Baker family; otherwise, there could be a lot of trouble later on.
Lassie nodded, "No problem, I'll handle them."
She didn't take these people seriously. After all, she had already convinced her parents, and her grandfather had agreed—the surgery was necessary.
"Good," Evelyn nodded, then added, "Tomorrow's procedure will require not just me but also the cooperation of doctors from other departments, so the hospital..."
"Don't worry, I'll arrange everything. Just give your orders," Lassie assured her.
Evelyn could tell, Lassie genuinely wanted to save her grandfather. After giving a few instructions at the hospital, Evelyn left but didn't head straight back to the hotel. Instead, she drove towards the location of the Kyte family.
The Kyte family's location wasn't hard to find, in fact, it was quite conspicuous. The Kyte Corporation building stood in the city center, and the Kyte family estate was also easy to locate.
Evelyn just looked on from the entrance, not wanting to disturb anyone.
She would deal with Grandpa Lassie's surgery first. Now was not the time to take risks, especially since she had promised Lassie. If anything went wrong and she couldn't perform the surgery, she would feel guilty for life.
Moris City, at a bar.
Dermot knew Evelyn had gone to Colombia, and this time he hadn't followed. Partly because he didn't qualify, and partly because he knew Evelyn was going to perform surgery.
Craig sat across from him, suppressing a smile as he saw Dermot's furrowed brow.
"I heard that Evelyn comes from no ordinary background. Aren't you afraid that once she goes to Colombia, she might never come back?" Craig wasn't trying to tease Dermot. It was just that the possibility seemed very likely.
Dermot downed another drink and looked up at him, a mix of amusement and sadness in his eyes, "If she finds her own family, I should be happy for her, shouldn't I? What right do I have to stop her?"
"Happy? Are you really happy?" Craig scoffed, not seeing any sign of happiness in Dermot.
Dermot ignored his sarcasm; after all, he wasn't feeling particularly joyful at the moment.
After finishing another drink, he turned to Craig and said, "You seem pretty happy lately. Has Ruby not been giving you a hard time?"
"Why would she give me a hard time? Could she afford to ignore the welfare of the Kyte family?" He looked confident, as if he had Ruby all figured out.
Dermot didn't see it that way. Maybe Ruby wasn't planning anything, but from what he knew of Evelyn, she would never stand by and watch her friend in trouble.
But he didn't say that. It wasn't that he wasn't a good friend, but he had already deceived Evelyn once for Craig's sake, and he couldn't side with Craig again.
"You're spending time worrying about me when you should be worrying about yourself. I think you and Evelyn might be drifting further apart," Craig said, despite his dislike for Evelyn. Dermot was his friend, and he hoped for his happiness.
Craig's words hung in the air, and Dermot's hand, holding his glass, paused.
A feeling of indescribable discomfort settled in his heart, but what could he do? With things as they were, all he could do was silently stay by Evelyn's side, unable to do anything more, lest he push her further away.
Yet, if one day Evelyn truly left him...
Dermot didn't dare to think further. He feared he might not be able to handle it.
