Chapter 1177: Found Happiness Again
Blake finally snapped out of it, eyeing Nathaniel and Bella up front, feeling a bit salty. "Looks like your mom's found her groove again over the years."
"Good for her," Blake muttered, not planning to mess with their vibe. If Bella was genuinely happy, he'd back off.
Evelyn glanced up from her phone, having just finished reading the scoop Niall sent her. Nathaniel's lovey-dovey act with Bella was starting to feel like a bad joke.
"Dad, you're trippin'. Can't you see Bella's not into Nathaniel?" Evelyn still couldn't bring herself to call Bella "Mom," having never met her. Even calling Blake "Dad" took forever. To Evelyn, Bella was just some stranger.
If it weren't for Blake's obsession with finding Bella, Evelyn figured she could go her whole life without a mom.
But after reading the info, she had a change of heart.
Blake looked puzzled and asked, "What do you mean? Was your mom forced into this?"
"From what I dug up, after the Calderon family took her back, they made her marry Nathaniel. Their relationship's been rocky ever since." The intel showed Bella didn't like Nathaniel, even though he seemed to treat her well.
But Evelyn felt there was more to the story. If it was just dislike, they could've just tolerated each other. There had to be deeper issues causing this obvious tension.
As for what those reasons were, Evelyn figured she'd find out eventually.
Blake's emotions were a cocktail of worry and resolve. "If Bella really can't stand Nathaniel, we gotta find a way to get her outta there!"
Blake could totally relate to the misery of living with someone you can't stand for years.
"Let's find a chance to ask her. What if the info's wrong? We shouldn't wreck Bella's happy life." Even though Evelyn wanted Blake to be happy, it shouldn't come at the cost of breaking up someone else's family.
Even if Blake was her dad, Evelyn couldn't let him do that.
Blake nodded. "Don't worry, your old man's not that dumb."
The auction rolled on. Bella felt like someone was watching her, but with Nathaniel around, she didn't dare act weird. She kept her eyes glued to the auction items to keep her cool.
"Next up, we have a stunning sapphire necklace, generously donated by Ms. Kyte from Golombia. Bidding starts at $200,000." The host's words sent a buzz through the crowd.
Why would someone from the Kyte family be here?
Evelyn ignored the chatter and stood up to greet everyone. This time, Bella couldn't help but notice her.
The mention of the "Kyte family" had already rattled Bella. When she saw Evelyn, who looked eerily like her, she instantly knew who she was.
As the sapphire necklace went up for auction, Bella's face grew even more troubled.
That necklace was something she had left for Evelyn before being taken away by the Calderon family. She never thought she'd see it again, especially not here.
