Chapter 855 Admit It
Evelyn felt a bit embarrassed when she heard his words. "Sorry, I..."
"It's okay." Dermot cut her off. He didn't need her apology. "Wanna take a walk?"
"Sure." This time, Evelyn didn't refuse.
Lately, she hadn't been eating with Joshua or Dermot. She was avoiding them.
She knew how they felt about her, but the more she knew, the less she wanted to think about it.
She could give Joshua a clear answer, but when it came to Dermot, she was clueless.
They walked along the roadside, side by side, in silence. But it wasn't awkward.
The street was pretty empty at night, especially the path by the river. Besides a few joggers, it was almost deserted, making it super quiet.
"How's work at the hospital?" Dermot asked, like an old friend, without much emotion.
Evelyn nodded and smiled. "It's going well. I think I'm better suited for hospital work than taking over the Kyte Group."
She didn't have the skills or the interest.
"Yeah, the Kyte Group has professional managers, so there shouldn't be any big issues." Dermot wanted to say he'd be there if anything came up, but he held back.
Evelyn just nodded, and they fell silent again.
As they walked, a sudden noise broke the quiet. They instinctively looked over and were momentarily stunned.
In the distance, a couple was kissing, oblivious to anyone around them.
Evelyn's cheeks turned red, and she quickly walked ahead, feeling awkward.
Dermot stayed expressionless, but seeing her blush made him smile a bit.
He caught up and teased, "Are you shy?"
Evelyn stopped and glared at him. "No, I'm not. It's just kissing; who hasn't done it?"
Admitting it would give Dermot more ammo to tease her, and she wasn't having that.
"Who did you kiss?" Dermot's face darkened. The thought of her kissing another man made him extremely jealous.
Evelyn looked at him, eyes wide with disbelief.
Dermot quickly realized, and his dark expression vanished, replaced with a smile. "Only with me, right?"
"Dermot!" Evelyn was angry and raised her hand to hit him.
But her hand never landed. He caught it mid-air and pulled her into his arms, whispering in her ear, "Wanna try it again?"
While she was still in a daze, Dermot's warm lips approached. Evelyn didn't dare move, her eyes wide open in bewilderment.
Weren't they just taking a walk? How did it come to this?
Dermot's lips lightly touched hers, not going any deeper, but even so, he was very happy.
He said, "Your heart is racing, Evelyn. Admit it, you still like me."
