Chapter 1128: Don't Play Dumb
When Joshua found out Evelyn was with Dermot, he couldn't quite put his finger on how he felt. Sure, there was some pain, but he also felt a weird sense of relief.
At this point, he finally stopped fooling himself into thinking he still had a shot and just gave up completely.
Putting away his phone, he looked at Brandon next to him. "To the office."
"Mr. Garcia, you wanna take a couple of days off?" Ever since Evelyn left, Joshua hadn't taken a break and had been working nonstop.
"I'm good. If you're tired, take a break." Joshua didn't feel tired. Honestly, the only way he could handle the pain was by diving headfirst into work.
Brandon sighed; he was just worried about Joshua. Seeing that Joshua had made up his mind, he didn't say anything else and went to arrange the flight off the island.
Three days later, Aidan had just finished a call with Evelyn. Standing by the window, he stared into the distance, lost in thought.
He used to hate Dermot and did everything he could to keep them apart. But now, he got it—Evelyn and Dermot were meant to be together, and no one could stop it.
He found himself surprisingly calm, way less worked up than the last time they were together.
Maybe Aidan had really let go of his feelings for Evelyn, seeing her more like a sister now. No matter what choices she made, as long as she was happy, he'd support her.
Aidan took a deep breath, feeling a wave of relief wash over him.
Just then, his phone rang again. Seeing it was Craig calling, he instinctively frowned.
The call ended quickly, but Aidan's frown deepened.
He and Craig rarely talked, so Craig reaching out to meet him was not a good sign.
Aidan could guess why Craig wanted to see him, but he didn't really want to go.
He had zero interest in getting involved in anything related to Phoebe.
But for some reason, he eventually put on his coat and headed to the bar Craig mentioned.
Aidan pushed open the door; the private room was chill, a sharp contrast to the lively hall outside.
He walked in to find only Craig there.
Craig casually said, "Have a seat."
Aidan sat across from Craig, frowning slightly. "What do you want?"
Craig downed a glass of liquor and then chuckled. "What do you think?"
"I don't know," Aidan replied bluntly. "I'm super busy. If you don't wanna talk, I'm out."
Aidan hadn't wanted to come in the first place, and seeing Craig like this made him regret it even more.
"Aidan, we're both guys here. And as guys, we should take responsibility," Craig stated icily, his eyes brimming with a chilling determination.
Aidan didn't actually leave. He just frowned. "What do you mean?"
"Don't play dumb. What else could I be here for?" Craig asked with a mocking smile. He couldn't understand what Phoebe saw in this guy.
Aidan's expression darkened. He looked at Craig and said, enunciating each word, "I've said it a million times: regarding Phoebe, not only is the baby not mine, but even if it were, I wouldn't accept her!"
"You bastard," Craig was furious, but he tried to calm down. After all, he was here to solve a problem, not to fight Aidan.
