Chapter 793 Without Me, You Wouldn't Be Here Today
As soon as Wade left, Craig appeared in front of Evelyn. Evelyn was a bit surprised by his presence, and she said, "What's up?"
"Is your father okay?" Craig asked.
"He's fine," Evelyn replied, puzzled as to when Craig started caring about her.
But she quickly understood Craig's intention when he said, "If everything is fine, you should go downstairs and check on Dermot. You haven't visited him since he woke up."
Although Dermot hadn't said anything, Craig knew he wanted to see Evelyn.
Evelyn frowned, not quite understanding. "He's awake. That's good enough. Why should I visit him? You should ask Ms. Martin to visit him."
Besides, she had other things to do.
On one hand, she needed to stay with her father, and on the other, she had to call Joshua to prevent any unexpected situations.
"Evelyn, Dermot has regained his memory," Craig said.
Evelyn shrugged, half laughing, half crying. "Really? That's great. He had the surgery to regain his memory, didn't he?"
Craig thought Evelyn was playing dumb. She should know what Dermot meant, but she pretended not to, and there was nothing he could do about it.
"I still hope you go see him," Craig said before turning to leave. Whether Evelyn would go see Dermot or not was beyond his control.
Watching Craig leave, Evelyn pursed her lips and sat back down after a moment.
She really didn't have time to see Dermot and didn't know what to say to him.
At the border, David led a group of people over the mountains. Once they crossed, they would be in another country, and Evelyn wouldn't be able to do anything to them. They would truly be free.
At the thought of it, the group was in high spirits. They would all get a good share of the money this time. As for those who had been caught earlier, no one cared about them anymore.
Some even thought selfishly that having fewer people was better, as it meant more money for them.
"Keep pushing, guys. We're almost out of the country," David encouraged everyone. At this point, nothing could go wrong.
But perhaps what he feared most was what was going to happen. Just as they reached the mountaintop, with only the descent left to reach the other country, torches suddenly lit up around them.
Soon, David and his group were surrounded by people holding torches, and Joshua stepped forward.
"Did you really think you could get away?" Joshua sneered, glaring at David in the lead.
Seeing Joshua in front of him, David frowned. "Who are you? Do we know each other?"
He felt the person in front of him looked familiar but couldn't recall where he had seen him before.
It was his first time in Libertonia, so he shouldn't know Joshua.
"Who am I? You're not qualified to know," Joshua sneered, already pulling out his gun.
In an instant, David also drew his gun.
"Let us go, or we'll perish together here today," David said. He had no choice but to push forward. Victory was so close, he couldn't give up now.
Facing the gun, Joshua showed no fear. He even took two steps forward, pressing David's gun to his forehead. "Do you dare to shoot?"
Looking into Joshua's eyes, David seemed to see a demon.
He screamed in terror, "It's you! It's you!"
Joshua shot David in the heart, killing him instantly.
He squatted down, looking at David's body. He whispered, "Yes, it's me. Without me, you wouldn't be here today."
