Chapter 999: I Feel at Ease with You Around
Evelyn looked down, not knowing the Kyte family had "death warriors." She shrugged it off, figuring Blake had his reasons for not telling her.
"Think Randy Doyle did this?" she asked Dermot, curious about the mastermind.
Dermot thought for a bit, then shook his head. "I don't think so."
"Sure?" Evelyn asked, noting his confidence.
Evelyn fell silent. She doubted it was Randy but couldn't think of anyone else.
Seeing her troubled, Dermot picked her up and put her back in bed. "Rest up. I'll look into it."
"Even though they're dead, we can find clues about who they were," he said.
Evelyn nodded, knowing she needed to recover quickly to handle things herself.
She tried to sleep but soon opened her eyes. "You should go. I'm fine."
Dermot had a lot on his plate, and she felt guilty keeping him.
But Dermot insisted, smiling. "I'll feel better staying with you."
"Dermot."
"Sleep. There's a couch. Once you're out, I'll rest too," he said.
Evelyn gave in, knowing she couldn't change his mind. She quickly fell asleep, but Dermot didn't rest. He stepped out, sat on a bench, and made a call.
"Find out who they are." If Evelyn were awake, she'd be shocked by his cold tone.
It had been a while since Dermot showed this side to her.
The next morning, Evelyn woke up early, feeling much better. She thought about leaving the hospital but decided to stay since Joshua was still in the ICU.
Dermot came in with breakfast. "Morning, eat up."
"Thanks," Evelyn said.
"No need to be so polite," he reminded her. But she couldn't help it sometimes.
Feeling a bit awkward, Evelyn scratched her head. "Sorry, habit."
"It's okay, just remember," he said, hoping she'd see him as family.
As she ate, Evelyn wondered if Joshua would wake up today.
Just then, Todd knocked and walked in. "Mr. Doyle, Ms. Kyte, Mr. Garcia is awake."
Evelyn immediately got up, leaving her breakfast, and headed to the ICU.
Dermot's face darkened.
"Mr. Doyle?" Todd asked nervously, seeing Dermot still seated.
Dermot took a deep breath. He knew Joshua was a savior to Evelyn, and it was normal for her to be concerned.
But seeing Evelyn by Joshua's side, comforting him, made Dermot feel a pang of jealousy.
