Chapter 906 When You Rejected Me Back Then
"Yeah, at least give me a chance," Jennifer said eagerly, looking at Luke with anticipation.
Unfortunately, Luke didn't even look at her. Instead, he turned to Evelyn. "Why didn't you give me a chance when you turned me down back then?"
Evelyn and Jennifer stayed silent.
There came an awkward silence. Evelyn quickly replied, "Because I knew you weren't after me because you liked me. You just wanted to compete with Dermot."
Luke didn't argue.
Jennifer sighed in relief.
If Luke really liked Evelyn, she would really be at a loss for what to do. Evelyn was better in every way and also her boss.
Luckily, he didn't.
"If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving now." Luke stood up, clearly not intending to continue the conversation.
Evelyn didn't stop him. She was worried he'd say something awkward if he stayed. It was better for him to leave and make money for her.
Jennifer didn't want him to go, but she knew it was pointless to say anything. Luke wouldn't listen.
Luke left the restaurant, leaving Evelyn and Jennifer to finish their meal.
"Don't get me wrong. Luke doesn't have feelings for me like you think. You might not know about his thing with Dermot."
"I know," Jennifer said.
Evelyn looked surprised, then heard Jennifer say, "I did a little digging on him."
She knew about Luke and Dermot, so she quickly got it.
"Besides, even if he did like you, what could I misunderstand? He clearly has no interest in me," Jennifer said, a bit down.
Evelyn didn't know what to say.
She tried to comfort her, "He's the kind of guy who doesn't understand feelings at all.. If you keep at it, you'll win him over."
Evelyn figured persistence was key with guys like Luke.
"Yeah, even if you didn't say it, I wouldn't give up. He's the first guy I've ever liked. Giving up would be embarrassing."
Evelyn felt relieved. Jennifer was tougher than she thought.
They dropped the topic of Luke since it was bumming Jennifer out.
"By the way, has Peter left?" Evelyn suddenly thought of Peter and asked.
Jennifer shook her head. "I don't know. I haven't been in touch with him. He's hard to reach."
"But we can ask Emerald. She should know," Jennifer said, looking at Evelyn and waiting for her to speak.
Evelyn shook her head. "I was just curious. I'm not really worried about him."
"Yeah, I guess he hasn't left. Since Emerald called him over, it probably wasn't just to fight you. She knows it wasn't just you who caused Nathan's death; someone else was involved." To Jennifer, the other person was the real culprit.
Evelyn had told Emerald this before, but she didn't know if Emerald believed her.
If she did, Emerald probably wouldn't let Natalie off easily.
Thinking of Natalie, Evelyn couldn't help but admire her a bit.
Last time, she had warned Hubert so sternly, yet he still kept Natalie around. Was he really not afraid she'd hold a grudge against the Diaz family because of Natalie?
It seemed she needed the Kyte family to put pressure on the Diaz family. She couldn't let Natalie off easy. She hadn't forgotten she was almost killed by Eugene's bomb because of Natalie.
