Chapter 84 What Has She Been Doing These Past Two Years?
Dermot looked at the living room and wondered if it was his imagination, but it seemed like nothing had changed here compared to two years ago.
He turned to Maria and asked, "Has the manor not been renovated in these past two years?"
"No," Maria answered, then continued, "Mr. Doyle did call before and said it didn't matter much...".
Maria paused, realizing that Dermot and Evelyn had already divorced, and changed her phrasing, "Mr. Doyle said it didn't matter what Ms. Kyte wanted to do with the renovations, but Ms. Kyte didn't make any changes."
Dermot's face became terrible, he knew why.
Because just like him, Evelyn had no willingness or desire for this marriage from the beginning, so naturally she wouldn't waste time on renovations.
"What has she been doing these past two years?" He wanted to know more about Evelyn's past.
Maria stole a glance at her Mr. Dermot, not understanding why he was asking about Evelyn-related matters when they were already divorced, but she didn't dare to ask and could only truthfully answer, "Ms. Kyte's daily life is quite simple. She spends her time at home tending to flowers, reading books, and sometimes goes out shopping. Other than that, there isn't much else."
She had advised Evelyn before, telling her to proactively reach out to Dermot. How could a married couple not see each other? But at that time, Evelyn just smiled and said, "Why should I go find him? Isn't everything fine now? I'm free."
Is it that simple?
Dermot was puzzled; no matter how he looked at Evelyn, she didn't seem like someone who would have so much leisure time.
"And she's often at home?" Dermot asked.
"Every day at home. Sometimes she goes shopping until late, but she always returns to the manor and never stays out overnight," Maria replied.
Dermot froze, unable to believe it.
He thought with Evelyn's personality, she would be busy being out every day. How could she come back home every day?
Dermot didn't ask any further questions and pointed to the rooms upstairs, "Which room does she stay in?"
"On the second floor, the first room on the right," Maria answered.
"Why didn't you stay in the master bedroom?" the man furrowed his brows, surprised.
"Ms. Kyte said the master bedroom was too big and she was afraid to live alone, so she moved to the smaller guest bedroom," Maria replied.
Dermot waved his hand at her, indicating for her to go busy, while he went upstairs towards the room Evelyn had stayed in.
Pushing open the door, it was pitch black all around, and he reached out to turn on the lights, revealing a simple and large bed.
Unable to sense any trace of Evelyn's presence, Dermot stood in the room and felt a complex mix of emotions.
The room hadn't changed at all. To Evelyn, this place was like a hotel, as long as she could sleep. She didn't care about what was in the room.
Dermot's mood became complicated.
He pushed open the balcony glass door and walked outside. The moonlight bathed him, casting a long shadow.
Dermot couldn't help but wonder, during those two years of marriage, did Evelyn also stand here and look towards the entrance? Did she ever hope he would come back?
At that moment, Dermot understood her aversion towards him.
During those two years, besides not returning to Doyle Manor, there were hardly any changes in him. He was still the free-spirited Dermot from before.
And Evelyn...
She spent night after night waiting, even if she didn't love him, she never would have thought her husband wouldn't come to see her even once.
"Sigh." Dermot sighed.
Back then, how could he have imagined that after their divorce, he would encounter her again, but in a different way.
However, she wasn't his wife anymore; she had become his ex-wife.
