Chapter 1336 Extra: Aidan and Phoebe (11)

The assistant strolled out of Aidan's office, and the other secretaries at the door shot him curious looks. "So, when's Mr. Brooks tying the knot with Ms. Irvine?"

"How the hell should I know?" The assistant snapped back, clearly annoyed. It's not like he could just ask about stuff like that.

Besides, weren't they all busy planning the baby shower? How did the convo switch to marriage?

"If they don't get hitched, people are gonna gossip about the baby," one of the secretaries chimed in.

The others nodded, "Yeah, having both parents around is better for the kid."

Everyone got that, but no one had the guts to say it to Aidan's face.

"Get back to work. Mind your own business." The assistant waved them off, telling them to get busy.

The secretaries scattered, but you bet they'd keep gossiping in private.

The assistant couldn't control that; after all, it was a personal matter, and he had no clue what Aidan was thinking.

Truth is, Aidan didn't really care much about it. Letting Phoebe stay in the villa and throwing a baby shower for Theodore seemed like the right moves, or at least they didn't bother him much.

He hadn't really thought about his love life.

He didn't have any special feelings for Phoebe, and living together wasn't gonna change that overnight.

But to say nothing had changed would be a lie.

At least, he didn't dislike Phoebe as much as he used to.

He used to really dislike Phoebe, especially when she tried to manipulate him.

Even though the baby issue was settled with money, he still wasn't a fan of Phoebe.

But Phoebe didn't know any of this right now.

Lately, she and Aidan had been getting along, and Aidan had been looking out for her. For someone she already liked, it was impossible to control her feelings.

She had started dreaming about a life with Aidan, imagining them raising Theodore together.

"Your post-surgery recovery is going well, but you still need to keep up with regular check-ups and remember to take your meds," Evelyn said after checking Phoebe's medical report, feeling relieved.

Phoebe nodded eagerly, "I get it. I'll take my meds and go for check-ups on time."

"Good, then there shouldn't be any problems," Evelyn said, putting down the report and smiling at her.

Phoebe smiled back but hesitated before asking, "Evelyn, given my condition, is there a chance it might come back?"

Evelyn's face froze; this was the question she dreaded the most.

"It's okay, you can tell me. I can handle it," Phoebe waved her hand, trying to sound calm.

But Evelyn knew it was just a front.

Evelyn said, "Even though the surgery got rid of all the cancer cells, there's still a chance it could come back. Our bodies are unpredictable; you never know when something might go wrong, so regular check-ups are key." This way, even if it does come back, it can be treated early and won't get too serious.

"Yeah, I get it," Phoebe said, her mood sinking a bit. The chance of recurrence meant she could leave this world at any moment.

She felt a bit unwilling.

She hadn't seen Theodore grow up yet, nor had she really been with Aidan.

Sensing what she was thinking, Evelyn quickly said, "Don't stress too much. It might not come back. Keep a positive attitude and stick to a regular routine, okay?"

"Yeah, I know." She knew all this, but the fear of death was something she couldn't shake.
