Chapter 1228: Car Accident

Dermot had a beef with the Bush family, and it hit Leonard hard. But Leonard wasn’t about to throw in the towel. Nah, he was fired up to take on Dermot.

He was ticked off, thinking that apart from his family name, he was just as good as Dermot. Now that he had the family clout, he was itching to show what he could do.

But, man, he bit off more than he could chew.

Everyone in Golombia knew Leonard and Dermot were at each other’s throats, and it was clear Leonard was out of his league.

Just look at the Bush Group’s tanking stock market. If things kept going south, the Bush family was toast.

Still, the Bush family had deep roots, so they weren’t going down without a fight.

But everyone knew it was just a matter of time if things didn’t change.

Leonard had tried to rally some families to gang up on Dermot. They were tempted at first, but now they were too chicken to make a move.

The Doyle family was already top dog among the ten major families, and with Dermot’s skills, they were thriving even more under his lead.

Nobody wanted to mess with Dermot now.

At the Bush Group, Leonard had just gotten chewed out by the board. They told him to back off Dermot and apologize to stop the bleeding.

But Leonard wasn’t having any of it.

"Leonard, what’s the plan? Are we just gonna roll over?" One of Leonard’s old buddies, Tyrell, asked. Leonard had brought him and a few others into the Bush family when he came back.

Leonard drummed his fingers on the table, looking grim. "Tyrell, I’m in deep now. If I don’t fix this, I’m done for. Will you help me out?"

"Leonard, you saved my skin. I’ll do whatever you need," Tyrell said, loyal as ever.

Leonard grinned, but there was something dark in that smile.

Friday, rush hour, traffic was a nightmare.

Dermot had just picked up Evelyn from the hospital and was hunting for a place to eat.

"Been swamped at the hospital?" Dermot asked while waiting for the light to change.

Evelyn nodded. "Yeah."

"Must be wiped out, huh?" Dermot was worried but knew better than to suggest she quit.

Evelyn shrugged. "I’m used to it. Being busy keeps life interesting."

"Well, as long as you’re happy. But if you ever need a break, just take one," Dermot sighed.

Evelyn got what he was saying and smiled. "Don’t worry; I’m good."

"The light’s green; let’s roll." Evelyn pointed out, changing the subject.

Dermot didn’t say more, just hit the gas and moved forward.

As they hit the intersection, a big truck came barreling from the right, out of control.

Evelyn was still looking at Dermot and didn’t see the truck, but Dermot did.

"Evelyn!" he shouted, yanking the wheel to the right and shielding her. The crash came next, and they felt weightless.

The car got hit, flew, and slammed back down. Evelyn tried to see what was going on but blacked out from the impact.
