Chapter 1314: How Should I Take Responsibility for You
Dermot thought this question was totally pointless. He never planned on helping Ava more than he already had. "Why should I help her any more? Letting her crash at my place is already more than enough."
If he had known that this would almost start a fight with Evelyn, he wouldn't have let Ava stay in the first place.
"Oh? Ava was your first love," Evelyn teased, grinning at Dermot.
Dermot felt a headache coming on and explained again, "I was never with her. How can she be my first love? Actually, you are my first love, so you gotta take responsibility for me."
"How should I take responsibility for you? You are my first love too," Evelyn shot back.
"Really? But you liked Joshua," Dermot brought up Joshua again to make Evelyn understand what kind of relationship he had with Ava.
Evelyn went quiet.
"Evelyn, I just thought she was in a tough spot, so I let her stay. If you don't like it, I'll ask her to move out tomorrow." Even though he thought it was just an unused villa, if Evelyn didn't want it, he wouldn't do anything to make her unhappy.
Evelyn quickly waved her hand and said, "No, I'm not that petty. It's just a house, and it's not like we don't have any."
"Right, that's what I thought too," Dermot laughed. He knew Evelyn didn't really mind these things. What she cared about was whether he still had feelings for Ava.
But Dermot didn't have any at all.
They shifted the conversation away from Ava. Dermot asked why Evelyn had come back early, and she told him about her experiences at the overseas conference. The night slipped away quietly for them.
While things were chill on their end, Ava spent the night tossing and turning.
Ava never meant to cause any drama between Evelyn and Dermot. The vague things she said before were just for fun. Now lying in bed, she couldn't sleep because she felt guilty.
Turning over, she sighed, "Forget it, I'll go explain to her tomorrow."
The reason she came to Dermot this time was actually to make Delmar jealous. She had no feelings for Dermot.
But seeing how things were now, she guessed it probably wouldn't work out.
If Delmar didn't make an effort to win her back, then the separation might be for the best. It was like cutting losses in time.
Ava thought a lot and decided to explain everything to Evelyn tomorrow. Only then did she feel relieved and quickly fell asleep.
The next day, Evelyn went back to the hospital to continue working.
When Ava came to find her, Evelyn had just finished seeing a patient. She was puzzled and a bit annoyed by Ava's arrival.
Was Ava here to stir the pot?
Evelyn decided that if Ava really did that, she would make her move out as soon as possible.
"Ms. Clark, what can I do for you?" Evelyn asked directly.
Ava could sense Evelyn's dislike for her, but she didn't mind. "I just wanted to explain that there's really nothing between Dermot and me. He just felt bad for me and gave me a place to stay."
She smiled. "What I said yesterday was just a joke. But it looks like you two are really in love. I really envy you."
