Chapter 840 I Just Haven't Met Someone I Like
Wade just smiled. He certainly couldn't hand over the Allen Group to anyone else, even though he knew he could be as free as Evelyn if he did, but he simply couldn't do it.
"It's normal that you're not worried, after all, you have family in the Kyte Group now," Wade teased, eyeing Evelyn for her reaction.
As expected, she frowned right away. "Wade, can you stop teasing me?"
"Alright." Wade chuckled but added, "If you're really not into Joshua, you should tell him soon. No point in wasting his time."
They both knew that even though the Kyte Group was powerful, Joshua clearly didn't enjoy working there.
"I know." She had made it clear from the start, but Joshua still joined the Kyte Group, and with her dad's backing, she couldn't stop him.
"By the way, why are you going on blind dates? Did Uncle Harold and Aunt Amanda push you?" Evelyn asked, curious.
Wade nodded, a bit helpless. "Yeah, they can't wait for me to get married tomorrow.."
"And you? What do you think? From what that girl said, you've been on a ton of blind dates but haven't met a woman you like." Evelyn thought Wade was being too picky.
Wade was quiet for a moment, then finally smiled. "What if I said it's because of you, and I don't want anyone else? Would you believe it?"
Evelyn was taken aback, almost to tears. "Wade, can you stop joking?"
They hadn't been in touch for a while, and judging by Wade's expression, he shouldn't have those feelings anymore.
"Just kidding." Wade smiled, clearly teasing her.
He liked Evelyn before, but after losing touch and knowing they had no chance, he gave up. Now, he saw her as a friend, which made things easier.
Evelyn sighed in relief, glad it was just a joke. She didn't want to be the bad guy.
"I just haven't met someone I like," he said, his gaze drifting away.
Evelyn felt uneasy. "What about Lucia? How are things between you two?"
"Lucia? She's still doing housework at the villa. To me, she's just a free maid, so I won't let her go easily. She has to pay a price." His eyes were full of disdain.
Evelyn doubted that was the whole story.
She continued, "At the last family banquet, you brought her along. That really surprised me."
Usually, people brought their wives or girlfriends to such events, but Wade brought Lucia, which made people talk.
Even though Lucia was still technically Wade's fiancée, everyone knew their real situation.
After that day, rumors spread that Lucia had won Wade over and that they would get married soon. Evelyn heard these rumors but didn't believe them.
But seeing Wade today, she started to doubt.
Wade seemed a bit off.
"That was out of respect for your father. After all, she's part of the Kyte family," Wade explained, sounding a bit dismissive.
