Chapter 768 What Do You Think?

Lucia was scared. She feared that all her scheming would amount to nothing in the end. What was more, she feared that she wouldn't have a good ending; that Evelyn would always live better than her.
Wade seemed surprised that Lucia would ask such a question. He stopped and turned to look at Lucia, then said with a mocking smile, "What do you think?"
"I don't know." Lucia shook her head because she truly didn't know.
Back when the Roberts family was still around and her parents hadn't divorced, she thought that at least she had the Kyte family and the Roberts family as her backing. Even if Wade didn't like her, he would still take these two families into account, and her chances of marrying him were quite high.
But now, she was really unsure.
Wade looked at her as if she were a joke. "You only realize it now? Were you really that confident in yourself before?"
Lucia didn't speak, which Wade took as a silent admission. His mocking smile grew even more pronounced. "You really are confident, aren't you?"
With that, he went upstairs to his room. As for Evelyn's question, he didn't answer, but he thought Lucia should be very clear about it.
In the living room, Lucia's face was pale, and she was trembling all over.
She understood Wade's meaning.
He wouldn't marry her.
Not that he wouldn't marry her now, but that he never intended to marry her from the beginning.
At this moment, Lucia felt a sense of despair. She didn't even know what she should do.
Should she turn around in anger and leave? Or should she muddle back to her room and pretend nothing had happened?
Lucia didn't know; she only knew that she felt very hurt inside.
Evelyn had no way of knowing what was happening with Lucia, nor was she that interested.
After fully recovering from her injuries, Evelyn returned to work at the hospital, not bothering with all these things. After all, the Kyte Group still had Blake managing it, and she believed he would handle everything.
In the clinic, Evelyn had just finished checking a patient. But just as she was about to call in the next one she froze upon seeing the name.
After a moment, she called out, "Dermot Doyle."
Soon, Dermot walked in with a medical record.
"Mr. Doyle, what are you doing here?" Evelyn tried to maintain a smile, trying her best not to lose her temper.
"Register and see a doctor," Dermot replied succinctly.
Evelyn was speechless. 'Of course, I know you're here for a consultation, but given your status, you really don't need to go through this process,' she thought.
Upon seeing Dermot's serious expression, Evelyn didn't bother arguing with him. "Did you bring your medical record?"
Dermot nodded and handed it over.
Evelyn carefully reviewed it, while Dermot watched her.
"Your condition is quite complicated. The main issue is that the blood clot is pressing on a nerve, and there can't be any mistakes. Otherwise, you could end up paralyzed," Evelyn said seriously.
It was probably why no one at Golombia Hospital dared to operate on him.
It was not that others couldn't do it, but they didn't dare. If Dermot ended up paralyzed, the Doyle family would surely come after them.
After all, everyone knew that Dermot was a member of the Doyle family, and no one dared to let anything happen to him.
Moreover, in their view, amnesia wasn't that big of a deal; it was better than being paralyzed.
As for the long-term consequences of the blood clot pressing on the nerve, they didn't care about it. They'd deal with it when the time came.
After Evelyn finished speaking, Dermot didn't respond, so she looked up in confusion and met his gaze.
For some reason, in that instant when their eyes met, Evelyn's heart skipped a beat, but she quickly regained her composure.
"Mr. Doyle?" she called out, bringing Dermot back to reality.
"Sorry, I got lost in thought," Dermot said without any embarrassment.
