Chapter 1298: She Was Mistaken

Jennifer wasn't about to let him off the hook that easy. She turned to the bodyguard and said, "Break his other hand too. Let this be a lesson. Next time he thinks about messing with Lily, he'll remember this pain."

"No!"

"Ah!"

The scream echoed again. Brad was already out cold from the pain, and Marshall and Abbie looked like they were about to puke.

Jennifer was pretty pleased with herself.

"Don't call us heartless. Here's some cash for the hospital. If he croaks, that's on you." With that, Jennifer tossed a few bills on the ground and strutted away, not giving a damn about what happened next.

Back in the car, Jennifer was in a great mood. Evelyn glanced over and asked, "All done?"

"Yep, all set." Jennifer flashed an OK sign. "I promise they won't mess with Lily again."

"Thanks," Evelyn said.

Jennifer shrugged it off. "Ms. Kyte, you're my boss. It's my job to handle stuff for you. No need to thank me."

Evelyn just smiled and let it go. She let Jennifer start the car, and they headed back to Golombia.

As night fell, Evelyn got home just as Dermot walked in from work. He had no clue what Evelyn had been up to and looked a bit worried seeing her come home so late. "Busy day at the hospital?"

"Not really," Evelyn said, feeling a bit guilty.

"You weren't at the hospital?" Dermot picked up on her guilt right away.

Evelyn laughed awkwardly and spilled the beans about taking people to find Lily's parents.

After hearing it, Dermot felt a bit helpless. "Why didn't you call me?"

"You're busy dealing with the Diaz family. You think I can't handle a little thing like this?" Evelyn didn't think it was worth bothering Dermot.

Dermot knew Evelyn could handle it. He was just worried about her safety. "Next time, take a few more people with you."

"Alright, whatever you say." Evelyn didn't argue. If it made Dermot feel better, taking a few more people was no big deal.

The chef whipped up dinner quickly. Dermot had been so swamped lately that he didn't have time to cook, so they hired a chef.

The chef's skills were top-notch, and both Evelyn and Dermot were happy.

After dinner, Evelyn brought up Niall's plan to propose. "I never thought Niall was such a romantic."

She always saw Niall as a bit of a wild card, not the type to settle down.

Evelyn figured he'd date around a lot before finding someone he liked.

But now it seemed she was wrong.

"Who really knows who they'll fall for? Maybe Niall thought the same about himself before he met Lily. But when you meet the right person, you just know." Dermot got where Niall was coming from.

When he met Evelyn and realized he liked her, he had the same thoughts but never got the chance to act on them.

After all, Lily and Evelyn were different. Lily might say yes to Niall's proposal, but back then, Evelyn definitely wouldn't have.

Evelyn glanced at him and chuckled, "You seem to get this pretty well. Are you a love guru now?"

"I'm no love guru, just someone who gets it," Dermot said.
