Chapter 756 I Have No Right to Blame You
The atmosphere suddenly became awkward. Evelyn let out a laugh, pretending not to hear, "Didn't I ask you to buy water? Where is it?"
"Isn't there some right by the bed?" Joshua pointed to the thermos on the nightstand, as if he knew that Evelyn sent him away on purpose.
This made Evelyn even more embarrassed, and she could only say reluctantly, "I just wanted to drink some water from outside."
"Really? Sorry, I didn't buy any," Joshua didn't expose her and even apologized.
Evelyn didn't want to dwell on this topic any longer. She said, "I don't have anything going on here. If you have something to do, go ahead."
"I just got back, what could I possibly have to do?" Joshua indeed had nothing to do and was also worried about Evelyn.
"Aidan asked you to come back to help him, didn't he? You should go and help him, right?"
'If you don't go, you won't have a good excuse,' Evelyn thought to herself.
Joshua smiled helplessly at her words. He had no choice but to say, "Alright, I'll go to help him later."
After that, they chatted a bit more. Joshua didn't directly reveal his thoughts. After all, he had just returned and was still somewhat estranged from Evelyn, so he wasn't in a hurry.
After he left, Evelyn finally relaxed. Maybe it was because they hadn't seen each other for so long, she didn't feel as at ease in front of him as she did with Aidan.
Evelyn didn't want to think about it any further, and she took out her phone and browsed the news. The days of recuperation were always so boring.
With a glance, she noticed some trending news online.
The news was about Dermot and Margaret. The two attended a banquet together, with Margaret holding Dermot's arm.
A reporter asked what their relationship was. Margaret answered that they were boyfriend and girlfriend. Dermot stood beside her without denying it, which was essentially a confirmation.
Although there had been rumors about Margaret and Dermot being together, this news made it official. Evelyn stared at the news, momentarily lost in thought.
It was at this moment that Dermot knocked on Evelyn's door. When he walked in, Evelyn's phone screen was still on, and he saw the news at a glance.
For some reason, Dermot felt inexplicably uneasy.
"Mr. Doyle, is there something you need?" Evelyn turned off her phone and looked at him with a cold expression.
Dermot walked over and sat by Evelyn's bed. He asked, "Is your injury alright?"
"What do you think, Mr. Doyle? If those three bullets had hit Ms. Martin, would you think it was alright?" Evelyn knew she should be rational and that Dermot was free to date whoever he wanted, but she just felt uncomfortable.
So, naturally, her words weren't pleasant.
Perhaps Dermot also felt guilty towards Evelyn, so he didn't argue back against her sarcasm, "I'm sorry I didn't answer your call right away."
"Mr. Doyle, you're being too serious. We're not that close, so it's normal for you not to answer my call," Evelyn said coldly, almost as if she wanted to write "I'm very unhappy" on her face.
Hearing Evelyn's words, Dermot felt inexplicably stifled. He apologized, "I'm sorry."
His sudden apology took Evelyn by surprise. "Mr. Doyle, there's no need. I'm just stating the facts. You had no obligation to answer my call.
"Besides, I have no right to blame you," Evelyn said, feeling a pang of bitterness.
Even Evelyn couldn't understand how she and Dermot had ended up like this. They were so close to getting back together.
Maybe it was just not meant to be. They got divorced after getting married, broke up after dating, and when they were about to reconcile, something like this happened.
It was all fate's arrangement.
