Chapter 493 I Will Have My Revenge
In the deep of the night, while Evelyn slept, Dermot was still at work. Through his computer screen, he conducted a meeting with the top executives of the Doyle Group, plotting a new expansion plan—and the target was Columbia.
He knew that if Evelyn opened up relations with the Kyte family, she would be deeply involved in Columbia. If he stayed confined to Moris City like before, he would only drift further from Evelyn.
Meanwhile, at the Kyte family estate…
After being slighted, Lucia couldn't wait to get home and pour out her grievances.
"Dad, you've got to stand up for me!" Lucia's voice quivered at the dinner table, her eyes glistening with unshed tears that tugged at the heartstrings.
Before Blake could even ask what had happened, Dora's maternal instincts kicked in with fierce protectiveness. "Lucia, who's given you a hard time? Tell Mom, and I swear I'll make them pay!"
Blake frowned at her words. He disliked this tendency of Dora's to blindly take Lucia’s side, regardless of the situation.
"Revenge? Lucia hasn’t even explained what happened. How can you tell who's in the wrong? What if she's the one who made the mistake?" Blake countered irritably.
"My daughter can do no wrong if I say so!" Dora stood her ground defiantly. "If you don't sympathize with Lucia, can't I, as her mother?"
Feeling like any further discussion would be a waste of breath, Blake turned his full attention to Lucia. "What's the story?"
Lucia hesitated, knowing deep down it was she who had been caught speaking ill of someone behind their back today.
Of course, she wouldn't admit any fault; she just felt she'd had a streak of bad luck.
She recounted the events, conveniently omitting her part in speaking ill of Evelyn, saying only that Evelyn had accosted her with accusations of having no manners.
After hearing the whole story, even Dora fell silent, let alone Blake.
Evelyn was in Columbia?
And she had crossed paths with Lucia?
Why on earth would she come to Columbia? Could it be that she knew something?
The coincidence of Evelyn's run-in with Lucia seemed too convenient to Dora. Perhaps it was deliberate.
The more she thought about it, the more despicable Evelyn seemed.
Meanwhile, Blake was astounded.
The fact that Evelyn was in Columbia, especially encountering Lucia, was shocking, but what he was really wondering was whether she had noticed any resemblance between herself and Lucia.
"Mom? Dad? What’s going on?" Lucia’s surprised voice broke their trance.
Both snapped out of it, but it was Dora who caught Blake’s silent gaze.
Yes, what was going on with Dora?
Her reaction wasn't what one would expect upon hearing her daughter had been wronged. His heart sank a touch, noticing the shift in his own gaze toward her.
Ignoring him, Dora focused on Lucia. "Sweetie, don't worry about it. Mom will take care of this for you. Evelyn's not worth your time."
"Thanks, Mom, I knew you were on my side!" Lucia beamed with relief. Even though her father hadn't promised to help, having her mother in her corner was just as good. After all, her mother belonged to the Roberts family—one of Columbia's top ten influential families.
Lucia returned to her room, giddy with anticipation. She couldn't wait to see Evelyn on her knees, begging for mercy. The mere thought thrilled her.
Her excitement was in stark contrast to the palpable tension in the private dining room downstairs.
"Did you already know?" Blake broke the silence first, his gaze fixed intensely on Dora, giving her no chance to weave any lies.
In truth, Dora had no intention of fibbing. She coolly admitted, "Yes, I know everything. I never would have guessed, Blake, that you had the audacity to secretly raise that little homewrecker!"
