Chapter 889 Could It Be Hatred Born of Love?
After leaving Virgil's office, Evelyn's workday was essentially over. Perhaps due to her bad mood, she decided to head home instead of staying at the hospital.
Around this time, Dermot called.
Since Dermot's last hospital stay, he and Evelyn had been talking more and getting along better.
When Evelyn got to the coffee shop, Dermot was already there.
"It's a bit chilly, huh? Have a hot drink," Dermot said, pointing to the coffee on the table.
Evelyn nodded. Early winter was setting in, and even with a coat, she felt cold.
Luckily, the coffee shop had the heater on. After a cup of hot coffee, she felt warm again.
"You're off work early today. It seems like there wasn't much going on at the hospital," Dermot said, curious about her day.
Evelyn nodded. Whether it was the arrival of winter or thinking about the mother and daughter at the hospital, her mood remained low.
Dermot noticed she had something on her mind and asked, "What's wrong?"
Evelyn shook her head, not wanting to talk about hospital stuff. It felt like complaining, and she knew everyone had their own problems.
"Come on, tell me. I'm free now," Dermot pressed, concerned.
Evelyn smiled. "Free? Did you give Randy the results he wanted?"
Randy had asked Dermot to interrogate two people they caught, hoping for new info.
Dermot smiled slyly. "If I tell you, will you tell me what's on your mind?"
Evelyn stayed quiet.
"Randy won't get the answer he wants, but I gave him something else. He's probably still trying to figure it out," Dermot laughed, his familiar sly grin showing.
Seeing his confidence, Evelyn knew Dermot could handle anything.
Dermot continued, "When I interrogated those two, they both claimed I ordered them to kill Gerald."
Evelyn tensed up. "Didn't you say..."
"Yeah, they never saw me and couldn't know I was behind it. Someone told them to say that."
Surprisingly, their lie was true. Dermot really was the mastermind.
Evelyn let him continue. "I sensed something was off, so I dug into the Doyle family. Guess what I found?"
"What did you find?" Evelyn asked.
"Someone in the Doyle family was bribed. Those two were paid to accuse me. They didn't care who they blamed as long as they didn't reveal who contacted them."
The two men wouldn't expose Joshua, so when someone told them to accuse Dermot, they agreed.
Evelyn got it but was still puzzled. "Who bribed them to accuse you now? Are they trying to get you killed?"
"Someone from the Martin family," Dermot said.
Evelyn was stunned, thinking, 'Could this be Margaret's idea, acting out of the hatred born of love?'
