Chapter 565 Are You Kidding?
<Chapter>Chapter 565 You're Not Kidding, Are You?</Chapter>
The embrace held its warmth until the sound of approaching footsteps prompted Dermot to gently release his hold. Shortly after, Blake appeared at the doorway, his gaze settling on Dermot with a distinct air of displeasure. "Why are you still here?" he demanded.
"I'm leaving now," Dermot replied, his tone steady. He offered Evelyn a subtle nod, then produced his keys in front of Blake. He crossed to the door opposite them, leaving Blake momentarily speechless.
"Goodnight," Dermot called over his shoulder to them both, offering a casual wave before closing the door behind him.
Evelyn turned to go inside, only to find Blake looking furious. "What... Why the long face?" she asked, her voice laced with confusion.
"He lives here?" Blake questioned, disbelief etched into his features.
'Dermot is from the most prestigious family in Morris City. How could he possibly be living in a place like this? The only conceivable explanation is that he did it on purpose, deliberately cozying up to Evelyn,' he thought, unease prickling at his skin at the thought of his daughter being stalked.
Aware of what was upsetting him, Evelyn quickly explained, "He was living here before I even moved in." It was the truth. Dermot had been her neighbor even during her married years.
"Hmph," Blake grumbled, unconvinced and suspecting his daughter was once again defending Dermot.
"Let's call it a night," Evelyn suggested, looping her arm through Blake's with a cheerful smile. The simple gesture seemed to melt away Blake's irritation, draining him of the will to argue further. "Hmm," he muttered in agreement.
The following day, after bidding Blake a good morning, Evelyn left the house. She had plans to resign from the hospital and treat her department to a farewell meal. She had been at Moris Hospital for a considerable time and felt this gesture was fitting. If life in Columbia proved to be dull, she might decide to return.
Once she had left, Blake took out his phone to call his secretary for a pick-up. He had matters to attend to in Moris City.Moris City was home to some of the Kyte Group's operations, albeit small in scale, which didn't usually warrant his presence. But now, he had a good reason.
As he sat in his car, Blake pondered over Evelyn's suggestion from the previous night. He felt a mix of anxiety and hope. 'If we really take over the Roberts family, the Kyte family will certainly advance further. Without the Roberts family to back her, Dora might behave more cautiously. At least she won't think about making another move against Evelyn.'
Lost in his thoughts, he instructed his secretary, "Dig up everything on the Roberts family. I want to know their current situation. Most importantly, have our team analyze if there's any chance of taking them down."
The secretary nearly crashed into the car in front upon hearing this, "Mr. Kyte, take over the Roberts family? You're not joking, are you?"
Blake remained silent, prompting the secretary to realize the inappropriateness of his question, "I mean, the Roberts family is also one of the top ten families. They're not much behind us."
"I'm aware. What if we have the Sackler family on our side?" Blake mused aloud. And then there was Dermot. Although his role was minimal, they might be able to use Dermot to set a trap for the Roberts family—it could just work.
After mulling it over, the secretary finally responded, "Alright, I'll contact our analysts about it later."
The alliance of two powerful families, coupled with a bit of cunning played out in secrecy, could spell success before the Roberts family even knew what hit them.
The secretary, however, couldn't fathom the logic. 'Isn't Mrs. Kyte a member of the Roberts family? Did Mr. Kyte ever consider how his actions might affect his wife's feelings?'
This question was one he dared not voice aloud. After all, everyone knew that Blake and Dora's marriage was rumored to be rocky, and now it seemed those rumors weren't just rumors after all.
