Chapter 761 Hanging on by a Thread
Although Emerald didn't say it outright, Evelyn could guess it. She had no choice but to say, "I told you the truth because I don't want you to be used as a pawn. You can still come after me for revenge. After all, Nathan's death is related to me."
Even though she didn't think she was at fault, it was normal for Emerald, as Nathan's sister, to hate her.
Emerald was clearly a bit moved. It seemed she didn't really want to die. With that, Evelyn continued, "Think about Nathan. He sacrificed so much to save you. Can you really bear to let his death be in vain?"
Emerald gritted her teeth. Of course, she didn't want Nathan's sacrifice to be wasted.
But she also knew very well that she couldn't kill Evelyn.
In fact, after today, it would be hard for Emerald to even see Evelyn again, as they were never from the same world.
Evelyn didn't care about Emerald's thought. As Emerald was hesitating, Evelyn slowly moved closer to her and, in a moment of distraction, lunged forward and grabbed her.
But perhaps Emerald was too scared. Not only did she not get pulled back by Evelyn, but she also fell outward.
At that point, both Emerald and Evelyn were extremely shocked.
Fortunately, Evelyn reacted quickly to grab Emerald's ankle with one hand and hold onto the edge of the rooftop with the other.
Evelyn had some martial arts skills and wasn't weak; otherwise, she might not have been able to hold onto Emerald.
It was at this moment that Emerald truly felt the approach of death. She started trembling and muttered, "Don't let go, I don't want to die."
Evelyn was speechless. She thought, 'If you didn't want to die, why do you make such a scene?'
However, she didn't dare to speak at this moment. If she did, she might lose her breath, and then she really might not be able to hold on.
Evelyn could only pray that the rescuers would arrive quickly; otherwise, she wouldn't be able to hold on much longer.
Just then, Evelyn heard footsteps. She didn't know who it was but still said, "Quick, give me a hand."
As soon as she finished speaking, someone grabbed her hand and pulled both her and Emerald up.
Evelyn looked at the person and found it was Dermot. She felt complicated and said, "Thank you."
"You were too impulsive. What if you couldn't hold on? Were you planning to die with her?" Dermot was very angry. He didn't even know why he was so angry; he just knew that the moment he heard Evelyn was on the rooftop, he rushed over immediately.
Luckily, Dermot arrived in time; otherwise, he didn't know what would have happened.
Evelyn looked at Emerald, who was now so weak she could barely stand.
"Let's get Emerald to the hospital room first," Evelyn said.
Emerald's health was already poor. If something really happened, even though it wasn't her fault, Evelyn would still feel guilty.
At this moment, Joshua and the rescue team also arrived.
Upon seeing Evelyn and Dermot, Joshua didn't ask much but helped get Emerald to the hospital room. Afterward, he had the doctor check Evelyn to make sure she was okay before he felt relieved.
"You scared me to death," Joshua complained softly.
God knew how panicked he was when he came back with the car and saw Evelyn hanging off the rooftop. He rushed over as fast as he could but was still a step behind Dermot.
However, he didn't feel like Dermot had stolen his chance to be the hero. Instead, he was grateful for Dermot's timely appearance. If Evelyn hadn't been able to hold on until he arrived, he didn't dare to think about the consequences.
Evelyn gave him a smile. She felt a bit embarrassed, then said, "Sorry for worrying you. I didn't think much at the time."
At that moment, Evelyn had only one thought: she couldn't let anything happen to Emerald.
