Chapter 1099: There Will Definitely Be a Happy Ending
"Man, I don't know. Her sudden grab was just weird. I'm worried she's testing you on purpose," Joshua said, rubbing his temple, clearly annoyed.
Brandon scratched his head, still confused. "Testing me? For what?"
"She wants to see if you're really hurt!" Joshua rolled his eyes, frustrated by Brandon's cluelessness.
Brandon started to get it but was still puzzled. "Why would she test me?"
"If she's testing you, it means Dermot must've told her something. Maybe Evelyn knows everything," Joshua said, worried. If that was true, Evelyn's recent behavior would be super sketchy.
Brandon snapped out of his shock, still in disbelief. "How is that possible? If she knew everything, why wouldn't she expose us? Why would she agree to go abroad with us?"
"I'm not sure either," Joshua sighed. He couldn't figure Evelyn out anymore and had no clue what she was up to.
But once he started doubting, Joshua felt like everything was spiraling out of control.
Seeing him like this, Brandon got annoyed too. "So what do we do? Should we just kidnap Evelyn? Once she's on our turf, she can't escape."
"Shut up!" Joshua shouted angrily. "Don't ever say that again."
He loved Evelyn too much to treat her like that.
Plus, even if they kidnapped her, knowing Evelyn, she'd never give in. It'd be a lose-lose situation, which he definitely didn't want.
"Mr. Garcia," Brandon was at a loss. He always thought women were a hassle, but Joshua just wouldn't see it.
"Go get ready. Maybe I'm just overthinking it," Joshua sighed, hoping that was the case.
Meanwhile, Evelyn sat in the doctor's office, holding Joshua's medical record. But she didn't open it; instead, she had headphones on, listening to something.
As Joshua's conversation ended, Evelyn took off her headphones.
Joshua would never have guessed that Evelyn not only chatted with him but also planted a bug under his bed.
She could've taken her time investigating, but she was desperate for the truth and went for this method.
She hadn't expected the first conversation she overheard to be so disappointing.
Turns out Dermot hadn't lied to her; it was all a scam.
Evelyn looked at the medical record in front of her, wondering if there was any point in digging further.
After a long time, she got up and went to find the spine specialist at the hospital. She still needed confirmation.
But the result was bound to disappoint her.
Dermot, busy with his own stuff, didn't know what Evelyn was up to, but he believed that once she had suspicions, she'd find out the truth. He didn't need to worry about the rest.
But he wasn't happy either because he knew Evelyn well. He knew she valued friendships deeply, and Joshua's deception would surely hurt her.
He sighed, looking at the design drawing on the table, which showed a diamond ring.
He hoped that once Joshua's mess was sorted out, he and Evelyn could have a happy ending.
Dermot murmured to himself, "We definitely will have a happy ending!"
