Chapter 1020: Just Answer My Question

Evelyn could tell he was still mad and felt a bit helpless. "No, I just want to talk about your injury."

Joshua was speechless, so Evelyn continued, "I know you don't get along with Dermot, but Dr. Leon is top-notch. Please let him check your injury. He might help you recover."

"Dermot being that nice? Evelyn, you know my history with him. I don't trust him," Joshua said.

"He just wants you to get better soon." Evelyn knew Dermot's intentions were to see Joshua recover quickly so she wouldn't have to stay by his side.

She trusted Dermot meant well, but convincing Joshua was tough.

Joshua looked at Evelyn and asked, "If I never recover, will you leave me?"

"Joshua..." Evelyn was at a loss for words.

"Just answer me," Joshua interrupted.

Evelyn shook her head. "Of course not, but I really hope you seek treatment and recover soon."

"I get it. I'll have someone check out this Leon. If he's not in Dermot's pocket, I'll consider it." Joshua didn't outright refuse but seemed to be stalling.

Maybe he had other plans.

Seeing he wasn't as resistant, Evelyn finally relaxed. "Alright, investigate. I believe Leon wouldn't be bought off."

But that wasn't good news for Joshua.

On Monday, Evelyn went back to work at the hospital. Everything seemed the same, but her life had changed a lot.

She ran into Geoffrey and Lisa in the cafeteria and remembered what Derek had told her. She said, "Thanks for what you did earlier."

Although Lisa had been a bit unreasonable before, Evelyn didn't mind. After all, it was Lisa and Dermot who insisted on checking the surveillance footage, which led to her rescue.

Hearing Evelyn's gratitude, both felt awkward. Lisa said, "No need to thank us. We're colleagues; it's just what we do."

"You could have ignored it, but you chose to find out the truth. Thank you," Evelyn said again.

Lisa blushed, remembering how she had scolded Evelyn before.

After thanking them, Evelyn took her tray and left. She didn't want to interact too much to avoid misunderstandings.

But Lisa had other ideas.

After getting her food, she brought Geoffrey over and sat in front of Evelyn. "Are you okay? Did those kidnappers hurt you?"

She was genuinely curious about who the kidnappers were.

Evelyn looked at her in surprise, noticing the curiosity in Lisa's eyes. She smiled and said, "I'm fine. Thanks to you guys discovering my kidnapping in time, I was rescued."

Lisa was surprised. "Really? But we feel like we didn't do anything."

"Don't doubt it. You really did save me." Evelyn smiled, genuinely grateful.

She didn't say much to Geoffrey, knowing Lisa might get jealous and she didn't want to upset her.
