Chapter 904 I Trust You
Amelia didn't have much time left, but Quentin not only ignored her, he even kicked her out, neglecting Alice as well, just because he was worried it might hurt his chances of remarrying.
He and Amelia hadn't even finalized their divorce, and he was already eager to remarry. Jennifer could only imagine what kind of life Alice would have if she stayed with him.
At first, Amelia doubted the charity organization Evelyn mentioned, but after talking to Jennifer, she realized she had to go through with the surgery. She needed to survive for Alice's sake.
Half an hour later, Amelia got into the car with Evelyn and Jennifer. This time, she left Alice with Angela instead of taking her to the hospital.
If the surgery was successful, she'd come back for Alice. If it failed, she had already made arrangements.
On the way to the hospital, Amelia felt anxious. When she had decided to give up, she felt relieved, but now she was nervous again.
Seeing her worry, Evelyn reassured her, "Don't stress. Your chances of a successful surgery are high. If you're worried about the lead surgeon, I can have the director of Neurosurgery do it personally."
Although Evelyn was confident in her skills, she knew having the director operate the surgey might be more reassuring for patients, so she didn't mind letting him take over.
But Amelia shook her head. "No need. I trust you."
Evelyn's willingness to help, despite having no personal connection to Amelia, made Amelia trust her. She also believed in Evelyn's abilities.
Evelyn was pleased to hear this. Gaining a patient's trust was why she worked so hard.
By the time they got Amelia settled in the hospital, it was already late. When Evelyn came out, she was surprised to see Jennifer still waiting.
Evelyn asked, "Why haven't you gone home yet?"
Jennifer smiled. "You're still busy. How could I leave first?" She then opened the car door. "Given how hard I've been working, you owe me dinner."
"Sure." Evelyn agreed and got into the passenger seat.
To thank Jennifer, Evelyn not only treated her to dinner but also invited Luke, giving Jennifer a chance to see him.
Jennifer was at a loss for words. When Luke showed up, she was so nervous she couldn't even look at him.
Luke didn't think much of it, as Jennifer had always been like this around him, and he was used to it.
Evelyn, on the other hand, was a bit speechless. She hadn't expected Jennifer to be so shy. She sighed inwardly, thinking that even when given the opportunity, Jennifer couldn't seize it.
"Why did you call me over? It can't be just for dinner, right?" Luke asked Evelyn, thinking she wasn't the type to be so idle.
Evelyn wanted to say it really was just for dinner, but under Luke's gaze, she couldn't. "Just wanted to ask about the company's recent situation."
"Everything's going smoothly," Luke replied briefly.
Evelyn felt awkward, thinking, 'That's a bit too brief, isn't it?'
