Chapter 1305: They Won't Do Anything to Me
Dermot found out Evelyn was grabbing dinner with Luke and Benjamin that night and straight-up insisted on tagging along. Dude just couldn't chill with the idea of Evelyn meeting them solo.
In the car, Dermot was behind the wheel while Evelyn slumped against the window, looking all kinds of exasperated. "Seriously, you don't need to stress so much. They’re not gonna pull anything on me."
"Yeah, I’m not buying that," Dermot shot back, not willing to risk it. "If I'm there, even if they get any funny ideas, they won't dare act on 'em."
"Alright, whatever floats your boat," Evelyn sighed, not in the mood to argue. She was just gonna talk about what Henry had told her to do, so no big drama expected.
They rolled up to the restaurant pretty quick. Luke and Benjamin weren't there yet, so Evelyn snagged a seat and waited.
Soon enough, Luke and Benjamin strolled in.
They looked a bit surprised to see Dermot, but then again, it made sense. Dermot and Evelyn were about to tie the knot, so of course, Dermot was playing the protective fiancé.
Benjamin felt a twinge of bitterness. He knew Dermot still didn't trust him, thinking he might try something with Evelyn again.
"Grab a seat," Evelyn said, waving them over.
Luke led Benjamin to the table, not even bothering to say hi to Dermot. Their relationship was always gonna be rocky, so why fake it?
Luke pulled out some documents and handed them to Evelyn. "These are the latest projects from the company. Check 'em out."
Since Luke was giving her the lowdown, Evelyn figured she might as well look. It'd only take a few minutes, even if she didn't really get the details.
After a quick skim, she handed them back. "Looks good. You handle it."
"Cool," Luke said, tucking the papers away, knowing she hadn't really grasped them.
But whatever, the important thing was she was in the loop.
With business out of the way, Luke turned to Evelyn. "So, what else is up?"
Evelyn cut to the chase. She looked at Benjamin and said, "Dermot and I just got back from Moris City. Henry wants you to go back and be with him."
Benjamin was caught off guard.
"He's not doing too hot right now. As his only son, you should really be there," Evelyn added.
She didn't mention Henry's worry about holding Luke back, not wanting to tick Benjamin off.
Benjamin stayed quiet, but Luke chimed in, "It's your call. If you wanna go back, that's cool. If you wanna stay in Golombia, that's fine too."
Benjamin glanced at Dermot, clearly looking for his take.
But Dermot acted like Benjamin was invisible, not saying a word.
After a beat, Benjamin finally decided. "I'll go back."
Even though Luke had his back here, this wasn't home. Better to head back to Moris City and look after Henry.
He had too many regrets and didn't wanna add not being with his dad to the list.
With that settled, Benjamin wanted to bounce. He couldn't stand Dermot's cold shoulder any longer.
"Since you're here, stay for dinner. No rush," Evelyn said.
With her invite, Benjamin couldn't really say no.
So, they all had dinner together. The vibe was far from festive, but at least they kept it civil without any blow-ups.
