Chapter 1242: Don't Worry Too Much
The car cruised along and soon rolled up to Dermot's villa. They'd been shacking up for a bit now, kinda like newlyweds.
As soon as they got home, Dermot, like clockwork, headed straight to the kitchen to whip up some grub, while Evelyn kicked back in the living room, scrolling through her phone, soaking in the chill vibes.
She'd thought about lending Dermot a hand in the kitchen, but every time, he'd shoo her away, saying she was just getting in the way.
After a bunch of tries, Evelyn got the hint and stayed put, just waiting for the food to be ready.
While she was catching up on today's news, her phone buzzed. It was Ruby. "Evelyn."
Ruby's voice was all shaky and teary, making Evelyn, who was sprawled on the couch, sit up straight. "What's up?" she asked, her voice dripping with concern.
"I haven't been able to get ahold of Alex for the past couple of days. His colleagues are giving me the cold shoulder. I'm freaking out something's happened to him." Ruby had no choice but to turn to Evelyn for help.
Evelyn snapped into action. "Don't sweat it, I'll dig around for you. Maybe Alex is on some hush-hush mission and can't spill the beans."
"Okay, just find out for me. I don't need the deets, just wanna know he's safe," Ruby said.
Even though they hadn't been together long, Ruby felt Alex's warmth towards her lately. She really wanted to be with him.
After hanging up with Ruby, Evelyn made some calls to check on Alex. She didn't think much of it at first, but when the news came back, her face went pale.
Dermot walked in right then and saw her worried look. "What's up?"
"I'm fine; it's Alex who's in deep trouble," Evelyn replied. "Ruby just called, saying she couldn't reach Alex and asked for my help. When I called around, I found out that Alex went MIA during a mission."
Dermot's face darkened. This was bad news for him, as Alex was the guy he was planning to recommend.
Evelyn nodded, feeling a bit jittery. "Yeah, they said he was snatched by a group of masked dudes. No clue who they are, but it's clear they were gunning for Alex."
Hearing this, Dermot walked over and gave her shoulder a reassuring pat. "Don't stress too much. I'll get someone on it. We'll sort this out."
"I'm worried about Ruby." She didn't know Alex that well, but she was really worried about Ruby.
Ruby had finally decided to turn over a new leaf, and if something happened to Alex now, Evelyn didn't know what would go down.
"It'll be okay. Alex is a tough cookie; he'll pull through," Dermot said, then got up to make a call.
Evelyn took a deep breath and decided to break the news to Ruby. Even though she knew it would freak Ruby out more, she couldn't lie to her.
On the other end, Ruby listened to Evelyn and surprisingly kept her cool. "Snatched by a group of people? Specifically targeting him?"
"That's the gist of it," Evelyn replied, adding, "But don't worry too much. Dermot and I have already got people on it, and with the cops involved, we'll track him down."
"Okay, got it." Ruby thought she might have a clue who was behind it.
